About this place Kimpton Gray Hotel

The Kimpton Gray Hotel occupies a magnificent 1914 office building in Chicago's Loop, two blocks from the Art Institute and within easy reach of both the Magnificent Mile and the L train network that connects the entire city. The Kimpton brand is explicitly LGBTQ+-welcoming — the chain's culture of inclusion is built into its identity at every level, from the front desk staff to the corporate philosophy. The hotel participates in the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index with a perfect score. The building itself is one of the Loop's architectural landmarks: the lobby retains original details while the 293 guest rooms are designed in the Kimpton aesthetic of sophisticated comfort. The top-floor Boleo bar and the ground-floor Vol. 39 cocktail bar are among the Loop's better hotel bar options. For gay visitors to Chicago, the Kimpton Gray provides the combination of luxury hospitality and the certainty of a completely welcoming environment. The Loop location makes it a sound base for the full range of Chicago tourism while the L provides quick access to Boystown on the Red Line.

Pretty nice. The location is great if you want to be in the loop, I'm just partial to more interesting neighborhoods.

We loved our stay here until we got a mystery $88 charge a couple days after checking out. My fiancé and I never ordered room service or ate dinner at the restaurant. Of course we called to dispute it with the hotel and the lady that answered was the rudest person ever. Laughed, said she couldn’t helped us and that we probably did order something. We will not be staying here again which is such a bummer because of bad customer service.

6/9/26 - I just want to update to reiterate how frustrating this experience has been. The breast milk arrived spoiled (expected) as it was nearly a week later with the delays driven by the hotel (for what should have been shipped overnight). This was a full day’s worth of food for my daughter and several hours spent pumping throughout the day that went completely to waste. I’ve received no apology from the hotel other than the standard response made to this review. At the end of the day, The Kimpton Gray needs to understand the seriousness of this situation and how to better handle in the future. This is putting infant livelihood at risk. I hope they learn from this experience and use it to train their front desk staff on how to appropriately manage at a bare minimum. *************** Very upset with how a sensitive situation was managed. I left a package with the front desk indicating that it was perishable breast milk 2 days ago, and the front desk worker ensured that it would get sent out as FedEx picks up packages daily from the hotel. 2 days have gone by and I just contacted the hotel to find out that the box of breast milk is still there. I had called yesterday too and the person while confirming the box was still there, had said fed ex would pick it up later that evening. I am very upset by my experience and how it has been managed. It’s very difficult to travel as a new mother and this being my first travel experience without my baby has been very upsetting. While the hotel itself is fine, I cannot recommend given the lack of communication and empathy around this situation. If you are not able to guarantee that a box can be shipped same day, do not promise that to your guests.

Stayed at a room facing north towards an alley. Throughout the night you could hear noises of carts rolling in and out of the alley. I understand this is necessary to take out trash/laundry but I recommend getting rubber wheels or carts with rubber wheels as it would make the experience that much better!

My partner and I toured and met with several hotels, restaurants and event centers in downtown Chicago, and the choice was simple to select the Kimpton for our wedding this year. The location, the on-site amenities/facilities, the food, and most importantly the service was top-notch! Mariah is everything and more than we could have ever hoped for in an on-site event coordinator. She was professional, responsive, friendly and went above and beyond to make this day special for us. With so many guests coming in town for the event, we loved the idea of having it at a hotel downtown so guests could see the city and easily navigate our wedding which was all at the Kimpton. Boleo is incredible - especially if you can luck out with the weather like we did to have an open rooftop with a view of the sears tower. Not only that, but we didn't even need to leave the hotel for photos - the grand marble staircase, vol 39 and a step outside to see the Board of Trade was a game changer and time saver for us too! Knowing weddings aren't cheap either in the city - the hotel was also one of the most reasonable options in terms of cost with not feeling like a stuffy ballroom type of event in a hotel event center. I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else.
