About this place Gene & Georgetti Steakhouse

Gene & Georgetti isn't just a steakhouse; it's Chicago's oldest, founded by Gene and Georgetti themselves, and it still feels like it.

You’ll find it in River North, a neighborhood that’s changed a lot around it, but this place is a holdout. It’s been serving classic steakhouse dinners for decades, and it still does. They’re LGBTQ+-friendly, which is nice to know, but the real draw is the old-school Chicago vibe — the kind that comes from a restaurant that’s actually been around.

There are no surprises here, which is exactly the point. You come for a traditional steakhouse experience, and that’s what you get. It’s the kind of consistency that builds a reputation, and Gene & Georgetti has definitely built one.

Being in River North means you can walk to other places afterwards, if you need to. But really, this is a destination in itself. If you want a piece of Chicago history with your ribeye, and a place that feels genuinely welcoming, it's worth checking out. Find current menus and make reservations at geneandgeorgetti.com.

My out of town family raved about our dinner at Gene and Georgettis this weekend. Their pastas are made in house, and everything we tried was truly wonderful. The service from every server and host was also amazing. They were extremely accommodating given our large party size and the fact that we had changed our reservation time.

One of the better dining eyes have had in years. This place is old school in all the great ways. We started at the bar with cocktails. Professional bartenders not mixologists. These guys have personalities. Then we went upstairs for dinner. Service was spot on. We started with grilled calamari and baked clams. Then an Italian salad. We got a bisteaka Florentina (spelling) and a rigatoni carbonara for the table along with creamed spinach. Outstanding!! Great wine list too. We finished with spamoni and coffees. If you have not been go. I highly recommend

We came on a Saturday night. The place was busy. Maitre'D was friendly and helpful. We opted to eat at the bar. Bartender was also good. We both ordered the same chicken dish. It was quite pricey, but so was everything. Dinner was badly overcooked and very dry. Could have done that myself at home. All in all, disappointing.
