About this place Inwood Tavern

The oldest continuously operating gay bar in Dallas, this Inwood Road spot has been an anchor for the city's LGBTQ+ community for more than 50 years.

It’s not just a Dallas thing. Travelers from all over stop in, as do plenty of Texans from out of town. You’ll find a classic bar inside, low-key, with a focus on cold drinks and good company. The patio, though, that’s where people really settle in: a place to hang out with friends, meet strangers, and just watch the evening unfold.

The bar's open every day. Happy hour drink specials run until 7pm. It's a good place to kick off your night, or just catch up with locals and other visitors passing through.

Whether you're after a relaxed night out or want to see a genuine piece of Dallas's LGBTQ+ history, this place has the kind of neighborhood bar feel that keeps people returning for decades. You'll quickly see why it’s legendary among gay travelers passing through Texas.

I like this place. Whenever I go with my friends, I have a good time. But what I want to talk about today is the food stand—the one serving hamburgers and hot dogs. My friend and I went to order two burgers, and I noticed that the person in charge of making them was putting onions on every single one. I politely asked him not to put onions on one of them, which would have cost him nothing. To my surprise, he told me he couldn’t do that—that he was putting onions on all of them and couldn’t make an exception. I could see there were individual burgers, and I didn’t understand how he couldn’t accommodate such a simple request. To make matters worse, he told me not to worry, that I wouldn’t even notice the onions—almost making me feel like a little child—when I know I can’t stand onions and they actually make me feel unwell. I still can’t believe that someone who cooks burgers wasn’t able to fulfill such a simple request as leaving onions off one of them. Not to make things worse, because I was getting really upset, I left. But I would recommend that the people running this bar hire a burger cook who is capable of meeting customers’ needs, since that’s ultimately what a business depends on.
