Gay Bars in Dallas
Almost every gay bar in Dallas sits on or just off Cedar Springs Road in Oak Lawn, packed tightly enough that you can walk the whole scene in an evening. It ranges from country-western dance halls to drag palaces, leather bars to come-as-you-are dives, and it stays busy every night of the week.
Dance Clubs and Drag
Station 4 (S4) is the flagship — a multi-level nightclub whose upstairs Rose Room hosts some of the best-known drag shows in Texas. Crush, a newer arrival on the Oak Lawn corner, brought a sleeker club feel with themed nights and Drag Race viewing parties, and Havana Lounge is the Latin dance floor, mixing reggaeton and hip-hop with a rotating cast of drag performers. The Mining Company keeps a dependable dance crowd too.
Neighborhood Bars and Video Bars
JR's Bar & Grill is the classic Cedar Springs video bar, where the crowd spills onto the sidewalk. Sue Ellen's, one of the last great lesbian bars in the country, runs two floors of live music, drag and karaoke with a huge game room. Cedar Springs Tap House is the patio-and-sports pick, Pekers is the karaoke room, and Liquid Zoo is the friendly dive. Marty's Live leans into piano and cabaret, Cheat Code Lounge is the gaming bar, and Kaliente draws a Latin crowd.
Leather, Bears and Live Music
The Dallas Eagle is the city's leather and fetish institution, hosting clubs and gear nights, while Hidden Door serves the leather-and-bear regulars. Alexandre's is the intimate live-music room, and The Round-Up Saloon is the country-western hall where the two-stepping and line dancing draw a devoted following. Woody's Sports & Video Bar rounds out the Strip, and over in Oak Cliff, Barbara's Pavillion has served its neighborhood for years.
Planning Your Night
The core of the Strip runs between Oak Lawn Avenue and Throckmorton Street, marked by the rainbow crosswalks and the Legacy of Love Monument. Weekends are busiest, but Cedar Springs rarely goes quiet, and because everything is within a few blocks you can bar-hop on foot. Most venues are 21+, so bring ID.
