About this place Legacy of Love Monument

The Legacy of Love Monument stands at the intersection of Cedar Springs Road and Oak Lawn Avenue, the southern gateway to Oak Lawn, Dallas's long-established gay neighbourhood. It is a tall rainbow-banded column on a small plaza, put up with support from the city and the local business community, and it was one of the first public monuments in a US city to mark a gay neighbourhood. There is nothing to visit inside; it is a landmark and a photo stop. The Cedar Springs strip of bars, restaurants and shops starts a short walk north, and the monument is a common meeting point during Dallas Pride.

Nice sentiment, awful execution. Shouldn't we get some idea about what it memorializes from the appearance? This looks as though it was designed -- typically of Dallas -- to be in the closet about its pro-LGBT origins.
