Thistledown on Oak, Boutique Hotel

My husband and I stayed in the Emerald Juliet room for three nights, and we highly recommend this lovely, 19th-century-themed boutique hotel filled with charming treasures. The hotel is located in downtown Hood River, within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed dinner at the fine dining Votum Restaurant, just a few blocks away. If you are visiting Hood River, we recommend both Thistledown on Oak and Votum Restaurant for a truly memorable stay and dining experience.

I treated myself to a stay at Thistledown on Oak in Hood River to celebrate my 50th birthday—and it was every bit the luxurious, thoughtful experience I hoped for. I stayed in the “Emerald Juliet” suite and from the moment I stepped inside I could tell so much care and intention had gone into every detail of the room. The decor is beautifully curated: antiques, rich woodwork, vintage touches paired with modern comforts (yes, the mattress was sublime, the linens lovely, and the little touches like a kitchenette/office loft in my room made it feel more like a private retreat than a “hotel stay”). The setting itself—top floors of a historic 19th-century building in downtown Hood River—is simply enchanting. Customer service here was exceptional. From check-in to check-out, the staff made me feel valued. The little extras (welcome treats, seamless communication, and genuine warmth) made the whole stay feel elevated. If you are looking for a place to stay that is not a run-of-the-mill basic hotel, you will not be disappointed with Thistledown on Oak. It’s ideal for someone who wants something special, memorable, and lovely. I’m already planning my return trip —this time I’ll stay in one of the other rooms (since Emerald Juliet was such a gem I now want to explore the rest). I’ll be recommending Thistledown to everyone who asks for a standout getaway. 5 stars — Highly recommended!

Such a lovely and unique room with so many thoughtful touches. The fireplace made it so warm and cozy and the complimentary snacks were so nice, watched Harry Potter with the fireplace going and had a little buffet for dinner! All the art was gorgeous and we could tell how much thought and care was put in to the design and decor. Will come back!

Absolutely awesome experience! You can't beat the location in HR and the room was spectacular. The only complaint I have, and it's a small one, the shower had nowhere to put toiletries so you end up putting them on the floor of the shower.

This place was perfect! My husband and I spent a week in Oregon for our anniversary. We are from Florida. After the long plane ride I was so excited to walk into the beautiful griffin’s loft. The location was also perfect. Plenty of shops and hiking trails near by. Book it now! You will not regret it!

We Loved This Spot! My Husband who rarely says anything about any where we stayed during we 3 week road trip could not stop talking about how marvelous the rooms were to the point we had to find out the person who did the design! Brad amazing job with the rooms! Everything was spot on including location n we had all the snacks we wanted. We had the pleasure of meeting Kimie who manages the hotel and she was Superb! This place is immaculate. Truly regal palace vibes. Even though there is no front desk or staff around (that I saw) I was still able to get a timely response for any questions I had. Even with all the decor, everything was CLEAN. There was no dust to be found, which feels like a hard task to achieve with the sheer number of items in each room and corner. I honestly did not want to review this place because I want it to stay available for me to come back to! 10000/10

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thistledown! We stayed in the Griffin Loft. Everything about this place was well-thought out and executed - from the decor to the appliances. For starters our room was ready early which is always a plus. Upon arrival we had snacks and a fridge full of refreshments and the room was clean. My favorite part were the frame TVs, they’re so aesthetic. And the remote controls to control the window treatments was an added bonus. Not to mention the location of this place can’t be beat. You’re right in the middle of town - walking distance to everything. I highly recommend staying here!

From start to finish, our stay at Thistle Down on Oak in Hood River was pure perfection. It began with the amazing woman who called me back after my original reservation, she was warm, thorough, and made sure every detail was explained, from how to get into the building to what to expect upon arrival. The building itself is a beautifully restored 1910-era bank, now transformed into offices and this stunning boutique hotel. We stayed in Griffin’s Loft, and the moment we opened the door, we were greeted by a rich royal purple color palette, upscale wood trim, and elegant Victorian inspired finishes. Every detail felt thoughtfully designed down to the beautiful stemware, the very nice coffee maker, and a refrigerator fully stocked with waters, sodas, sparkling water, and other drinks. There were even board games set out if we wanted to stay in for a cozy night. The fireplace added an extra touch of warmth and charm, the remote controlled skylight was a fun surprise, and the televisions looked like framed artwork until they came to life with the remote. Parking was simple, with a pass provided in the room so we could remain parked right out front for longer. Being on the main road meant we could simply step out the door and walk straight into the heart of downtown, with everything happening on a lively Friday night just steps away. We were also able to check in early, which was a much appreciated bonus. The bed was luxuriously comfortable, with linens that felt like sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom was equally impressive, with upscale finishes that made it feel spa like. We only stayed one night, but I could have easily stayed a week (or longer!). We left early the next morning for a rail bike excursion, which was another amazing experience but leaving this hotel so soon was bittersweet. Thistle Down on Oak is truly a hidden gem where historic charm meets modern luxury and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This is the most stunning hotel that I have ever stayed at. The 19th Century themed decor is tasteful and beautiful. We stayed in the penthouse which was absolutely gorgeous and had any and all amenities you would ever need. I cant say enough about this picture-perfect hotel. If your planning a trip to HR, stay here you wont regret it.

This is not just a place to stay, it’s an experience in itself! The decor and attention to detail is really impressive. The rooms were beautiful, exceptionally comfortable, and perfectly located. Hospitality here was top notch, Kimmy was so accommodating and helpful throughout our trip. Thistledown on Oak will certainly be our new go to every time we plan a stay in Hood River!
