Some people write just the good or the bad, I'm going to write both. We had our daughter's wedding at this location. The location and grounds are to die for. Absolutely gorgeous. Small drive to what I am going to call downtown Hood River to go to shops and restaurants. The service...let's start with the hotel staff. Some front desk staff like Jasmin are incredibly nice and helpful and accommodating. Others just stare at you when you have an issue and don't help when struggling at the door with a cart makes one wonder. When coming to the front desk, most of the time, you have to say "hello?" because they are in the back. Please tell your staff what distilled water is. Cheyanna was the wedding co-ordinator. While nice, she didn't seem to retain things said or sent to her. Many details had to be managed by us. She is very nice and was good at understanding how to get the party done within our budget, however, you also need someone who communicates with the rest of the hotel including the front desk, bartenders and vendors and is PROACTIVE rather than reactive in that communication. Cheyanna did come up with solutions for some issues but some issues should not have been issues in the first place. It could also be that the hotel is under-staffed in this area and need to hire an assistant for the details so that Cheyanna can focus on the tours and event day activities. The bartenders should know what the specialty drinks are and Cheyanna needed to get the one thing my husband asked for which she knew for a year and on the day of the welcome party said she couldn't get it when it's sold in many stores in the area...in my eyes, she simply chose not to do it. She failed to meet the hairdresser the day of the wedding (the bride ended up doing it) and Jasmine ended up helping with chairs for the hair to be done. The bartenders Alissa and Cristina (sorry if the spellings are wrong) were AMAZING!!!! They deserve a raise! Alissa helped my daughter get the specialty drinks right which took one burden off of her worries and anyone who has planned a wedding knows how wonderful that feels. The rooms...We stayed in a suite with an additional room overlooking the river - fantastic views! Large enough closets with a mini fridge and decent bed. The bathroom was not well thought out. Since there is a pedestal sink with no counter space, you need to have a small table next to the sink. They have one small shelf - not nearly enough. Luckily we had a small 3 tier table in the room extension that we moved into the bathroom to put brushes, toiletry kits, etc on so that you could actually have your toothbrush and hair stuff in the bathroom. My advice to the hotel is to buy a bunch of small 3 tier tables and put them in the bathrooms. Also, each hotel room needs to have an iron and ironing board - Every hotel I have ever stayed at has one - bite the bullet and pay for all rooms to have them. The shower had good water pressure and they were clean. Other items to consider - 1) the price - these rooms are expensive; 2) the elevator - needs to be operated by the hotel staff so there is a bit of a wait unless you can lug your stuff up the stairs. It's a cool historic elevator but it is a slow process; 3) They have coffee in the lobby in the morning which is nice; 4) The food...VERY GOOD! Everything we ate there was top notch; 5) And finally...the weather - it's windy - bring a jacket and think about putting your hair up.
