United Action for Youth

United Action for Youth (UAY) is an Iowa City nonprofit founded in 1970 that supports young people and their families across Johnson County. Among its programs it runs dedicated LGBTQ+ youth services — including drop-in time, support and discussion groups, and affirming counseling — making it one of the most established queer-youth resources in eastern Iowa. Based at 1700 S 1st Avenue, UAY offers a safe, confidential space that has become especially important as state-level protections for LGBTQ+ Iowans have narrowed. For young queer and trans travelers, families relocating to the area, or anyone looking for local support networks, UAY is a key community anchor.
