Hale Hui Kai

We arrived at Hale Kai Kai in Maui after nearly 24 hours of travel with three young children, including a 5-year-old who is nonverbal with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 2. The next morning around 7am, we took our kids to the pool. There was no visible signage indicating the pool was closed, the pool gate was not locked, and our children were playing quietly. The pool “rules” did not include any information about opening or closing times. A maintenance staff member (“Coach” according to the manual 😅) approached us abruptly and told us we had to leave immediately because the pool was closed. As we were visibly all getting out of the pool, he said “you need to get out now” incredibly rudely. When we asked where that was posted about the pool hours, we were told it was “in the manual.” After a full day of travel and arriving to Maui midnight our time, reviewing a lengthy manual was not top of mind-clear, visible signage at the pool would have prevented this entirely. We did find the very important manual hidden under the coffee table eventually. As we were leaving after being bounced out of the pool by “Coach” our 5 year old child with autism became distressed (as many young children do, especially after travel) and began screaming. After explaining he has autism and thus the reason for the outburst, the response we received referenced “quiet hours” rather than showing any understanding or flexibility. We respect rules. But how they are communicated and how families are treated who are guests and paying ALOT of money matters. This interaction felt unnecessarily harsh and lacking in basic compassion, especially toward a child with additional needs. Given the price point of this stay, we expected a much more welcoming and family-aware environment. I would strongly encourage other families, especially those traveling with young children or children with disabilities, to read reviews carefully before booking. If you do you will find MULTIPLE reviews echoing this. They want your money here but they don’t want your kids. It is a senior home on the beach without the title. Also, no other reviews mentioned, or possibly were removed, but there is transient activity sleeping on the beach directly in front of this property. I would have like to have had that info. Maintenance should probably focus there efforts there instead of paying guests and innocent small children.

We just booked our 2nd reservation for 2025. We appreciate the great service from Bello Reality over the last several years. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. Our room has always been clean and fresh. Looking forward to enjoying the experience again in a couple months.

A great place to stay. Rooms were well kept and contained many amenities. Beach chairs and umbrella were especially useful. Quiet rooms. A great patio area overlooking the beach and sunset.

Hale Hui Kai is on the most beautiful beach in Hawaii! Big shout out to the wonderful couple who manage this place, Jason and Jessie, they were kind, thoughtful and welcoming. We found that the people who stay here are very friendly too. We had a great time at Hale Hui Kai. Mahalo!

Great location. Nice and close to Kihei. The pool and beach is really nice. There is a great spot to relax by the pool. The beach is really easy to walk to and they have a foot rinse spot once you get off the beach. Many great things to do are only about a 2-3 minute drive. The town is only a mile walk. The staff are really nice and the air conditioning is amazing.
