Mandalay Bay is a big casino resort at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, beside Luxor, with the Four Seasons operating inside the same complex. It is a gay-friendly mainstream hotel, not a gay venue. Rooms are large with floor-to-ceiling windows and soaking tubs, and a daily resort fee is added to the rate. The main draw is the 11-acre beach and pool area, which has a wave pool, a lazy river and a topless-optional section. The property also has the Shark Reef Aquarium, a shopping arcade, an arena and a long list of restaurants. The south-Strip location makes it convenient for the airport, but it is a long walk to the mid-Strip casinos.

For $37/day resort fee, the 'resort' provided no robe, no shower cup, no sundries, like a sewing kit, no complimentary coffee or water. In room coffee is charged at $16 for a kit of two basic coffee capsules. The pools close at 7 pm and there is no shade unless one rents a cabana. Reception desk is very slow. Overall it feels like a basic no-frills Hilton, not like a 5 star place.

King room began smelling like sewer a day after arrival. Came back to the room with drain flies buzzing around. Had to pack up everything and move to a downgraded queen room.
