The Tranquil House Inn - Manteo, NC

Update to my pandemic era review: Just enjoyed our 5th stay at Tranquil House. Under new management (again) but this visit brought new furnishings inside and out, new exterior shingles, new decking...lots of updates overall. Third floor Premium Queen room was clean and comfortable (loved the addition of two leather glider chairs). We also enjoyed the complimentary light breakfast in the restaurant (bagels, yogurt, boiled eggs, warm sausage biscuits...) as well as the wine and snacks in the afternoon. Afternoon front desk associate was very pleasant. Prices are still reasonable-- comparable to or even a little less than beach front hotels. I recognized the housekeeper from our stay last fall--a good sign, imo. *** We enjoyed our weekend stay. Get a second floor room that opens to the balcony—it is well worth the price. The sunrise views were some of the best we have enjoyed at OBX. It was lovely being able to walk to shops and cafes. We brought our bikes and rode through town and all over the island via the bike path/paved walking trail. The desk associates were friendly and helpful at check in and check out. The room was mostly clean (we found an almond against the wall that was missed by the vacuum), and we loved the antique light fixtures and decor. Unfortunately, one of the beds in our double queen was very squeaky. My husband also thought the mattress was too hard. A pillow topper would go a long way in enhancing comfort. The breakfast that was served to our room was a bit of a let down—packaged yogurt, granola bars, muffins. It is a shame they don’t provide freshly made local baked goods or fresh fruit. Attention to minor details would have made the stay much more enjoyable and would return the hotel to the luxury inn it once was. Despite the minor flaws, we’d return.

Chuck did an amazing job at making us feel welcome and helping us find exactly what we needed. The rooms were cute, comfortable and well appointed. The views are marvelous and downtown Manteo is the prime spot for this adorable hotel!!

Tranquil House Inn is aptly named. Our room was a quiet retreat, spotless, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The afternoon wine and cheese social was lovely and later dinner at the restaurant delicious. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Checking in (and out) was seamless with detailed text instructions that allowed freedom to come in our own timing. Weather was nice and we enjoyed sitting outside on the deck overlooking the harbor and later walking the boardwalk along the water. Without hesitation I give Tranquil Inn 10 stars!

Wife and I loved the stay, great birthday vacation HQ. Central to everything, quiet, private, and very accommodating. The food was excellent too. Simple breakfast, loved the sausage biscuits but wish there was maybe a waffle maker or some scrambled eggs. Will be back in august for my birthday weekend.

The Tranquil House is the place to stay when visiting Manteo. The staff are so accommodating the rooms are clean and pretty and the location is amazing. The restaurant is one of the best as is the mixologist! Enjoy!

Wonderful location in beautiful downtown Manteo near lots of cute shops and the lovely boardwalk (saw an otter!). Only complaint was the noise of the window ac unit. Great views from dining room.

Had an amazing stay at Tranquil House Inn! Beautiful building with great location and views from decks. Parking was convenient. Service was top-notch and staff were helpful and friendly. Appreciated the complementary breakfast, waters, and cheese with wine. The room was lovely, clean, and peaceful. Enjoyed the view from our window. However, a taller toilet and lower bed would be beneficial for us older folks. Enjoyed dinner at the 1587 Restaurant and Lounge. Will return to Tranquil House Inn should we revisit Manteo.

The Inn is clean, quaint, and convenient; however, the amenities, guest services, and breakfast were on par with a Days Inn.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at The Tranquil House Inn in Manteo while we explored the Outer Banks. The rooms and service were great, and the location was perfect.

I’d give even more stars it that were an option! The inn is gorgeous, cozy, beautifully sited. The staff — every single one with whom we had contact — are about the best I’ve ever encountered in a hotel, inn or bnb. The restaurant and other amenities are wonderful and the town of Manteo is extremely charming. I can’t recommend it highly enough — well, actually, if you’re tempted to book a weekend when I want to go again — forget everything I’ve said above.
