New Hope is a small Bucks County river town. It’s been a gay destination since the 1960s, an arts community and LGBTQ+ safe haven in a rural stretch of Pennsylvania along the Delaware River. The scene is intimate, village-scale. Don’t expect a big-city circuit.
Bars & Entertainment
- Rrazz Room (at The Hotel du Village, Lambertville side) — Cabaret with regular shows. They get good performers; it’s the main entertainment option in the area.
- Havana Bar (105 S Main Street, New Hope) — A lively bar with entertainment and a mixed gay crowd. It’s one of the more active nightlife spots on the main strip.
- Nektar Wine Bar — Wine-focused, relaxed. Good for a quieter evening. Gay-friendly and popular with a slightly older crowd.
- New Hope Winery — Local winery with tastings and events. A pleasant daytime option, welcoming to everyone.
The Raven
The Bar at The Raven was historically one of New Hope's anchors, but the venue situation in town changes. Check its current status before you visit. The Raven Hotel itself remains a gay-owned boutique property on West Mechanic Street.
New Hope as a Destination
You can walk the town in an hour. Main Street has independent shops, galleries, and restaurants that have been gay-friendly for decades. The Delaware Canal towpath is good for walking and cycling. Peddler's Village and Doylestown are nearby day trips. Cross the bridge to Lambertville, NJ — a similarly artsy small town with its own restaurants and the Rrazz Room cabaret. Many visitors do New Hope and Lambertville together as a weekend.
Getting There Without a Car
New Hope is car-friendly but you can get there by bus from New York City (Trans-Bridge Lines) or Philadelphia (SEPTA to Doylestown, then taxi or rideshare). Most visitors drive. The town itself is small enough that once you're there, everything is walkable.
