About this place The Cub Room

The Cub Room is New Hope's dedicated gay bar and the town's last standing LGBTQ+ nightlife institution, tucked inside the New Hope Lodge on West Bridge Street a short walk west of the downtown core. The room centers on a convivial live piano bar where regulars and weekend visitors gather for sing-alongs, and it turns up the energy on Saturday nights with a music-video dance party. In warmer months the venue spills outdoors for seasonal tea dances beside the lodge. With a friendly, mixed crowd of locals and travelers, The Cub Room carries forward the welcoming, community-first spirit that has made New Hope a gay destination since the 1970s. It typically opens daily from around midday until late.

I have been coming here for many years. I would come just about every Friday and Sat night and knew almost all the guys there. Then it was sold to a new owner. A beautiful deck was added and an outdoor space w a fire pit. Great improvements, however, the bartenders who drew everyone here were unfortunately fired. Now I only come about once every 2 months, the crowd is totally different, and I don't see any old friends. Now, instead of mixed, it is mostly an older crowd, mostly women. It used to be a place to meet friends, but it has become a "club wannabe" with music louder than at a circuit party. Forget about talking to anyone. Your voice will be shot the next day from shouting. I'm sure the employees will have hearing problems. There is a beautiful heated deck to escape the deafening music, but it is usually full of yellow-toothed chain smokers. It is, however, the only gay bar with mostly gay customers, although not all.

A local who has lived here for 22 years. I’ve been here a couple times and it was all fine but tonight was a different story. Waited for 10 minutes while a bunch of staff just wandered around, talking to people around the bar… literally leaning on the bar, not caring that not only us but a different couple were right there waiting at the tables. I went up and asked if there was a waiter and he said, yes, someone will come, but again, just sat there with my significant other while they chatted and didn’t give a hoot we existed. After about 20 minutes we left. We know it was that long because we can tell when we locked the car on our phone. Shame, I had nothing but nice things to say about this place before but clearly they really don’t need business so all I’d say is I guess if you’re not one of their favorites you could just be sitting there wasting your time. I really hope it wasn’t discrimination. I know the vibe but I thought they of all people they are accepting.

Gay Bar, LGBTQ+ During the warmer months there are monthly Tea Dances outside. Every Saturday Night a Music Video Dance Party. The Cub Room has weekly entertainment. The staff is friendly, Food and Drinks are Excellent. It has a outdoor Deck, in the colder months heat lamps are used most of the time.
