About this place The Country Club

The Country Club occupies an 1884 Creole mansion in the Bywater and has been a fixture of queer New Orleans since 1977. Out front it is an elegant Southern restaurant and bar; out back, past the veranda, lies the famous saltwater pool, hot tub and cabana bar that made its name. The pool scene is swimsuit-clad these days (the clothing-optional era ended in 2014) and the crowd is a mix of queer regulars, brunch parties and neighborhood loyalists. Drag brunch and movie nights on the lawn are recurring favorites. Day passes for the pool are sold seasonally and sell out on hot weekends, so book ahead. It is the natural finish line for a Bywater wander past the murals and vintage shops, and a short pedicab hop from the Marigny bars.

Such a nice lunch - service was phenomenal as we needed time to cool off and regain composure after a walk there in the New Orleans heat. As a table if 2 we split a coolinary special of 1)dips, 2)shrimp and added the catfish salad to split. The timing of the courses could not have been better. the food was so fresh and perfectly prepared. We sat at a dining table but I can’t wait to go. Back and sit at the large bar.

I went to meet a friend for happy hour at the bar to drink and have a snack. I have been to the establishment multiple times and love it and have always had a positive experience. I walked in the host greeted me, and I told him I was meeting a friend at the bar he complimented my nails and told me to have fun. I proceeded to go meet my friend at the bar, we waited a moment and the bartender came over. My friend asked her to tell us the specials. She said them so fast that I couldn't understand what she said. I apologized to her and asked if she could repeat herself. She sighed then slowed her speech to a snail speed and her tone was anything but inviting. I had a question about the specials and again was answered as if I was a pain in her side. To be fair we wanted to leave right then and there, but it was uncomfortable so we just went ahead and ordered a drink. She only checked on us when we were finished with the first and we declined her offer for another. She never introduced herself, and i had to ask the host her name on the way out. She was the inside bartender at 530 in the afternoon and we were informed her name was Nikki. We would have stayed to eat and have more drinks but due to the sour experience, we decided to go elsewhere. It's a shame but it made a normally positive and fun experience into a negative one. I hope that today's experience is just a one time thing...

Drag brunch was tons of fun and the polenta dish did not disappoint.

They use facial recognition and bank your personal information on their server. there’s nothing else to say. For your own safety you should avoid this and any places that steal and misuse people’s information this way. It’s literally just a pool.

I was there for my birthday and for drag brunch. The show was lots of fun. The restaurant itself was beautiful and had old world charm. We had boudin balls which was delicious but more like brisket. The shrimp and grits were cooked perfectly. The chilaquiles were delicious and better than I have had in a long time. Our waiter Max was the highlight! Very attentive through all the mayhem. Always with a smile and a great attitude! Just note that gratuity is already added. Not sure if that was just for the drag brunch.
