Bureau of General Services — Queer Division

The Bureau of General Services — Queer Division at 83A Hester Street on the Lower East Side is the successor institution to the legendary Oscar Wilde Bookshop (which operated in Greenwich Village from 1967 until it was forced to close in 2009, making it the first gay bookshop in the United States). The Bureau opened in 2012 and has established itself as New York's primary queer literary and cultural space: a bookshop that stocks queer fiction, theory, memoir, art books, zines, and political writing with a depth and specificity that mainstream booksellers cannot match.
