Bureau of General Services, Queer Division is an independent queer bookshop and event space, now at 83A Hester Street on the Lower East Side. It stocks LGBTQ+ fiction, poetry, theory, history, art books and zines, and runs readings and talks, so it works as a community space as well as a shop. It keeps short hours: 17:00-21:00 Wednesday to Friday and 13:00-20:00 at weekends, closed Monday and Tuesday. Check its site for the events calendar before you go. Readings tend to fill the small room.

This book store already has limited hours, 6 hours 5 days a week. I went on Sunday when it should have been open. The receptionist at the ground floor said it was closed for today. If they have enough staff to tell customers that the store is closed, they should update it on Google maps too.
