I was genuinely excited to stay at the Admiral Hotel during a work trip because it had always been a hotel I wanted to experience while visiting Mobile. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. The lobby initially smelled pleasant, but as soon as we walked past the front desk, the entire atmosphere changed. The hotel had a strong mildew, musty, old-basement odor that became even worse on the guest floors. The first room we were assigned had visible mold around the windows. We immediately took pictures and went back downstairs to show the front desk clerk. She apologized and casually asked me to email her the photos but never provided an email address or any instructions on where to send them. While she did move us to another room, there was very little sense of urgency or concern about assigning guests to a room with visible mold. The second room, on the 11th floor, was no better in terms of the odor. The hallway itself had an overwhelming mildew smell, yet we were assigned another room on that same floor. Although there wasn’t visible mold around the windows in the second room, the strong mildew smell was still present throughout the room. It was so bad that I struggled to sleep and had to pull the blankets over my face just to avoid breathing in the odor. During my two-night stay, I became increasingly sick. I experienced hives, swollen lymph nodes, and an overall feeling of malaise. While I can’t say with certainty what caused these symptoms, they developed during my stay and I’m still recovering several days later. A staff member later explained that a tropical storm had damaged the hotel’s HVAC system, affecting the air conditioning. If that’s the case, guests should be informed before check-in rather than discovering these conditions after they’re already in their rooms. From the outside and in photos, this hotel is absolutely beautiful and has so much historic charm. Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving. Behind the aesthetics, the property felt old, damp, and poorly maintained. What disappointed me most wasn’t just the condition of the rooms—it was the staff’s seemingly nonchalant response to visible mold and the overwhelming mildew smell. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who has allergies, asthma, mold sensitivities, or other respiratory concerns. I will never stay here again, and I hope management takes these issues seriously before more guests have a similar experience.
The hotel is beautiful, but the rooms fell short of expectations. The bed was old, and the mattress had a noticeable body-shaped indentation, bed sheets also need to be replaced. I wouldn’t stay here again.
We ate at the restaurant for our anniversary. The service was wonderful and the staff are very friendly
Arrived to the Admiral Hotel Sunday for Father’s Day just to take my son to the pool and enjoy downtown. The pool was the dirtiest pool I ever seen in my life trees leaves dirt everywhere when dining in the living room. The experience was terrible. Bartender stayed at the bar and talked bar guest entire time. While eating a bag of Frito chips. Noting about that moment was upscale or hospitality. Please check cameras I walked in twice by myself and once with my family. That’s 3 times. That’s unacceptable. I will never visit again. The only complementary apple was the best thing at your establishment. If I could leave a negative I would. I’m a frequent traveler and have more reward points thank I know what to do with. The battle house is not the best in mobile but by far
Absolutely classy place!! Great location very close to lots of downtown attractions. Service was great with spacious rooms that were well appointed. 100% will stay here again. I recommend the deal with breakfast if they have it when you book. Valet was quick and easy every time with professional staff!
