Pensacola's gay scene is bigger than you'd guess for a mid-sized Panhandle city. Downtown bars, the huge Memorial Day weekend beach party, and one of the Southeast's most popular beach gatherings make it a real LGBTQ+ destination.
Gay Bars Downtown
- The Roundup — Pensacola's famous gay country bar. Line dancing instruction, pool tables, and a crowd that's been two-stepping here for decades. It's a fun night even if you can't dance.
- The Cabaret — Drag shows and cabaret. Regular shows with local and guest performers. This is the city's main drag venue.
- Chasers — A neighborhood bar with karaoke, themed nights, and a mixed LGBTQ+ crowd.
- The Break — A relaxed bar with pool tables. A lower-key option for an evening.
- The Cabana — A beachside bar on the island. This is the hub of beach Pride activities during Memorial Day weekend.
- Paddy O'Leary's — A gay-friendly beach bar on Pensacola Beach. Relaxed and welcoming.
Pensacola Beach Gay Pride — Memorial Day Weekend
This is Pensacola's biggest event. Memorial Day weekend (late May) brings tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ visitors to Pensacola Beach. The white-sand Gulf beach fills with rainbow flags. The water's warm and calm. The whole island takes on an ecstatic festival atmosphere. Pensacola Beach Gay Pride is consistently ranked among the best beach Pride events in the US. Accommodation on the island sells out months in advance; downtown Pensacola (15 minutes over the bridge) is the realistic fallback.
Pensacola Beach Bars
Pensacola Pride (June)
Separate from the Memorial Day beach event, this is a traditional Pride parade and festival in downtown Pensacola in June. Two Pride events in quick succession make late May through June a significant season for the city.
