Pensacola's gay scene is bigger than you'd guess for a mid-sized Panhandle city. Downtown bars, a queer-run restaurant, and the huge Memorial Day weekend beach gathering make it a genuine LGBTQ+ destination on Florida's Gulf Coast.
Gay Bars Downtown
- The Cabaret — This LGBTQ+-owned bar off Seville Square is the city's main spot for drag bingo, drag shows, and karaoke.
- The Roundup — Pensacola's long-running gay bar has a pool room, dance floor, patio, and Sunday drag.
- Dorothy's — A Wizard of Oz-themed queer bar and restaurant (opened 2024). It fundraises for the HIV/AIDS non-profit OASIS and hosts drag and sapphic nights.
- Play Pensacola — A gay-friendly downtown arcade and karaoke bar that runs regular drag bingo.
Pensacola Beach Gay Pride — Memorial Day Weekend
This is Pensacola's biggest event. Memorial Day weekend (late May) brings tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ visitors to Pensacola Beach. The white-sand Gulf beach fills with rainbow flags, and Casino Beach hosts a run of circuit parties. It consistently ranks among the best beach Pride events in the US. Accommodation on the island sells out months in advance; downtown Pensacola, 15 minutes over the bridge, is the realistic fallback.
PensaPride — June
Separate from the Memorial Day beach event, PensaPride is a sober, all-ages community festival held each June at the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds. It has over 100 vendors, live entertainment, and drag. Together with the beach weekend, it makes late May through June a significant LGBTQ+ season for the city.
