Pride Bigger Than Texas
About This Event
Pride Bigger Than Texas is the anchor event for San Antonio’s queer calendar. It’s produced by Pride San Antonio, a nonprofit that started as Gay Pride SA in 2004 and incorporated in 2011. What began as a parade with about a dozen entries relying on a handful of local bars has grown into a full weekend. Today, that means a daytime festival at Crockett Park and a night parade featuring dozens of floats. Net proceeds go to local nonprofits selected by the board; for 2026, that included the BEAT AIDS Coalition Trust and Diversity Recovery Alliance.
The schedule is straightforward. The festival takes over Crockett Park through the afternoon. Then, around 9pm, the parade steps off on North Main Avenue. That’s the strip of gay bars just north of downtown. A high-heel race kicks things off before the floats roll. The bars on The Strip keep the energy high with a block party that spills into Sunday. Bring water. Late June in San Antonio is hot, even after dark.
The 2026 edition ran from 26 to 28 June, with the main festival and parade on Saturday, 27 June. Texas Public Radio noted a mood of defiance mixed with party, driven largely by the city’s fight over a rainbow crosswalk in the Cultural Heritage District. While the event usually lands on the last Saturday of June, 2027 dates hadn’t been announced when we checked.
