Payne Mansion Hotel

The hotel was so beautiful, and everything was extremely comfortable as well. The staff were fantastic. They helped make everything very easy for us and our service dog. I would absolutely stay there again.

What a beautiful location and gorgeous hotel. Me, my boyfriend and our dog love staying here. Ash and Krish was sooo helpful and friendly, make us very comfortable to stay. We got free upgrade to our room. Breakfast was delicious. I enjoy every minute of my experience. Thank you guys for making us feel so comfortable. We would absolutely comeback.

We had a very comfortable stay in the deluxe king room for 2 nights. The Mansion has a very beautiful interior, beautifully furnished with a lot of interesting decorative items and pictures to look at, like a little museum. Check in was super easy, so was parking with clear instructions given with the early online check-in option. Our room and bed was comfortable and it was quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful and served us a hot tea before going to bed. We also liked the location. For us, everything was in walking distance to great Neighbourhood restaurants in Japan town or the Fillmore District. Places like Union Square Union, SFMoMA and other places of interest were in walking distance as well and we did not need a car for 2 days. Breakfast options were on the sweet side, but we could order eggs any style or omelette. For lunch we enjoyed great sandwiches at the Limoncello deli just opposite the Mansion. A wonderful place to come back.

Delightful Victorian mansion one block away from CPMC/Sutter Hospital on Van Ness. It may not look so grand on the outside but once you step in, you’re transported to the gilded era in SF. Everything is done tastefully, the room/beds were very comfortable, breakfast in the morning was very nice, and the service was wonderful. My husband ended up having to stay in the ICU longer than expected, and both the night and daytime managers were so helpful and kind through the process of my booking an additional night. They, along with server for the breakfast, made what was a hard time much more bearable through their professionalism and kindness.

Absolutely stunning building and hotel. The interior is gorgeous. We got upgraded to the king suite room and it was so comfortable, the bed was the highlight of the stay. Lush, spacious, and just enough pillows (iykyk!!) The hotel offers secure parking out back. It’s also very centrally located, lots of restaurants within walking distance and the neighborhood itself felt very safe as well. My ONLY call out is that since the building is so old, it doesn’t have the greatest sound proofing. You can hear guests in the hallway quite easily but that wasn’t a huge issue during our stay, certainly not worth affecting the rating. The hotel also offers a small breakfast in the morning as well as a free welcome beverage. Across the street is a popular delicatessen with highly recommended sandwiches. Finally, the staff was proactive and accommodating. Would absolutely love to stay here again someday!

We loved this hotel in a beautiful, historic house filled with original paintings. There were a few issues with our room which were remedied promptly. We also made some recommendations on how to make it even better. The staff here aims to please.

I had 2 separate stays here within about a month and they were both excellent. I love the decor and history. Service is excellent. In my opinion it’s the best of both worlds when deciding between an Airbnb or hotel. If I ever attend anything nearby I’ll definitely be booking a room at the Sutter mansion again!

Beautiful hotel. Delicious breakfast. Heavenly claw foot bath. Friendly & helpful staff. I could t have asked for a better end to my SF stay.
