Hassinger Daniels Guest House

Came in for the concert with my son. The home is beautiful you have to love an old home to appreciate this beauty. I slept peacefully, felt safe and the house was very clean. I didn't like the carpet but I understand why to preserve natural wood and sound. My son loved it, we stayed in Room 8 plenty of room and clean. There is outsude space that is beautiful bring a small folding chair. No outside furniture and I understand why, I think it would take away from the home. It was safe and in a very nice area. It's more modern furniture which I like. Who ever owns this is doing a great job of preserving it's authentic home. The windows, wood, wrap around porch a gorgeous home. Parking right but manageable if people park correctly. I will definitely stay again

The home is beautiful. There is a gazebo and wrap around porch but no chairs outside to enjoy them. I stayed in RM 3 one night and RM 2 one night. Both had clean sheets and towels. However, the bath mats both looked used, there were left over hair ties in both rooms and the rooms were dusty with hair in both tubs. I don't believe it's the owner's fault. He's only as successful as the cleaning crew. However, it should be addressed. There's not really any time period furniture. It's all newer but made to look a little older. The location is ok, but very busy and difficult to get out. Obviously, town was built around the home.

Holy cuteness! For a very decent price, you can stay in this gorgeous old Victorian style mansion. So quiet and unique, with beautiful grounds, antiques throughout, historical artifacts, and a beautiful turret-style grand staircase with stained glass windows. No food/drinks on site, but it's very convenient location makes grabbing food and drinks very easy. They have a refrigerator for guests to keep food and drinks in, as well. Every room is unique and you can choose whichever fits you best when booking. Definitely a must if you're visiting Birmingham and love historic homes. Can't wait to stay here next time!

The location is definitely the best selling point of this place. There are plenty of food and drink options in a couple of mins walking distance. The mansion is really cool, clean, and spacious. Each room has a unique arrangement and all are very spacious. On site parking can be difficult and extremely tight if you have a full size SUV or truck. That is the only complaint I have, but there is plenty of street parking and a valet lot directly behind the mansion if you can't squeeze into a space. Otherwise this is a perfect place to stay especially when you factor in the cost compared to nearby hotels.

Please don't call this a bed and breakfast. It's clean and a beautiful place. But I would call it more if a air b& b. They never checked to see if everything was going good. We had no room check and the small garbage can started to overflow, we used our own bags for the garage. The TV didn't work and there were no instructions. It was our 25th anniversary and I can say Birmingham is a great place to visit, but I will be passing on the Hassinger Daniels Guest House in next time we visit.

What a lovely hotel and unique experience! Incredibly charming, warm, clean, and centrally located. The rooms have character and the common areas are full of cozy antiques and finds. Hardwood floors, the bay windows, the flowers blooming in the courtyard were all delightful adds that you simply wouldn’t get with a hotel. They are finishing up renovations so breakfast was not available but that would only add to the experience. I would highly recommend!

Edit on 4/2/25: Extremely disappointing to hear that the owner Sheila sold this bed and breakfast to an EQUITY FIRM who have plans to change everything about it and thus begin the enshitification process of the Hassinger Daniel’s House. All of the antiques, GONE. No more breakfast, GONE. Ugly, uncomfortable modern furniture, CHECK. No hot water, CHECK. Private equity firms have RUINED America. Don’t give this business your money. What a devastating turn of events for this special B&B. Everything about this place was titillating. I am a Victoriana connoisseur and historian, so I was completely astounded by the owner Sheila’s extensive attention to detail in the restoration of this home. She even learned to how to make horsehair plaster to ensure that the restoration process was done in accordance with how the home would have been made in the 19th century. Sheila herself was a delight and was extremely knowledgeable about, well, everything. Especially the home’s history and the Victorian era. Sheila seemed to be insanely smart and told us that she worked as an architect. Sheila’s husband, whom I never met, was a carousel animal woodcarver. His workshop is in the basement of the home in the back. Each room is decorated with a theme. We stayed in the Camelot Suite. It featured a beautiful medieval carousel horse and two mannequins— King Arthur and Lady Guinevere. Sheila is obviously a master at arranging a scene. I felt as if I was staying in a castle. This B&B would be most appreciated by those who appreciate the curious, strange and whimsical— or those who are interested in the Victorian era. It was fabulous, interesting and comfortable. We will definitely be back next time we come to Birmingham.

I had a similar experience as several other recent reviews. Booked in January, was informed not too long ago that ownership was changing hands, and that this is no longer a bed and breakfast, just a bed. Was offered the opportunity to cancel the reservation if I wanted, but no other discounts or amenities for the inconvenience. What we weren’t informed of ahead of time was that the rooms were being stripped of all their charm in favor of modern, bland, basic essentials and that no staff would be on-site. Was incredibly difficult to get ahold of any management leading up to the stay, but maybe this will change once the transfer of ownership has had time to settle. The location was amazing, parking behind the building was available, and my partner and I had a reasonable expectation of privacy. So in terms of the basic purpose of lodging, this location served us well. But I see the prices have gone up since initially booking our room despite stripping out the charm and no longer offering breakfast, so I can’t discernibly see why we would ever return given those changes and the competition in the area.
