About this place Casa Ruby

Casa Ruby, founded in 2012 by transgender activist Ruby Corado, is a pioneering LGBTQ+ community center in Washington DC. It’s not a hotel or a bar, but a social and multicultural hub for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming people across DC, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. You come here to connect, to find support. It’s a gathering spot, sure, but also a practical resource for queer travelers and locals. This isn’t your typical hospitality venue. It’s a place built on activism and mutual aid. On Georgia Avenue Northwest, Casa Ruby reflects a deep thread of DC’s LGBTQ+ culture. Its core mission: to help the most marginalized in the community, especially trans and gender nonconforming people. To see what’s on, check casaruby.org for current programs and events.

Really good. Drinks were well balanced. Food was fresh and creative. Atmosphere was friendly and fun. Wife got meatballs. I got "spam" and kimchee which was such a good take on a classic. We ordered noodles and broth for the kiddo and she loved it.

Not family friendly. Just a bar with some meat. Hostess:”no we don’t have high chairs because we’re primarily a bar”.

What an island treasure! The staff is amazingly friendly and much of the food is from Vashon. If you want a taste of Vashon, this is the perfect place with gourmet food and classic island kindness!! - Oh and the best craft cocktail on the island that change all the time! And then lovely, friendly local staff that welcome you!

So glad we stopped here. We had the Meat and Noodle and Breakfast sandwich sausage for brunch. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS. The soup broth was so umami. Fresh cut bacon from their butcher, fresh seasonal veggies in the soup, perfectly seasoned soft boil egg in the soup. And home made hot sauce we had to take home. 10/10 will take the ferry out just to have it again

The restaurant was really empty on Sunday noon, same amount of wait staff as customers. The server did not know what to recommend on the menu as she had only tried one thing? Food was good but pretty overpriced. The farm to table concept is fine but the produce is not necessarily local to Vashon Island.

The food was wonderful. Definitely homemade. Wouldn't take my kids though. The music they were playing felt like I was at the club and had lots of dirty words.
