via Stay22About this place Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row
The Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row is a classic Washington, D.C. stay that sits right on Massachusetts Avenue Northwest, a block from Dupont Circle.
This isn't some new-build, glass-and-steel tower. The Fairfax has been around, which means it knows how to do a hotel: solid rooms, good service, and a location that actually puts you somewhere. It’s got that old-school elegance without feeling stuffy, a comfortable blend of the historic and the up-to-date.
The real draw here is where it sits. You're on Embassy Row, obviously, but also on the edge of Dupont Circle, which has been a D.C. institution for decades. Think tree-lined streets, a mix of old money and new arrivals, and a long history as a welcoming spot for LGBTQ+ residents and travelers. You can walk to galleries, find a bookstore, or settle into one of the neighborhood's many restaurants and bars.
For a trip to D.C., whether it's for work or to see the city, the Fairfax puts you in the middle of things without sacrificing a sense of place. It feels like a hotel that knows its neighborhood, and that's a rare thing these days.

Rooms are very small. Service is over the top amazing.
Terrible customer service and lack of professionalism. I would look elsewhere if you are in this area
Location is excellent, and the staff were consistently welcoming. The room was small but clean and functional. The dining and bar setup, however, felt awkward and inconvenient. While service was good, the layout was confusing and leaned more toward an Aloft-style experience than a luxury hotel. Game room in the basement was fun. Roof was closed the whole time despite the website saying it opened Memorial Day, this was actually very disappointing we couldn't even go up to the roof.
Nicely situated in Dupont Circle area of DC. I got a room upgrade easily. But I showed up hot and sweaty and wanted to get a quick shower. But the shower head wasn't working. Water came from the spigot fine but when I pulled the blocker, no water came out of the top. I told the front desk and they sent someone to fix it quickly. So no issues there. On site valet is nice. I also got a $10 drink voucher when I arrived.
Rooms clean, service good, located near DuPont circle. Could do with a refresh in the publication areas and on the outside of the building. Wouldn’t take much to improve. As it is, it looks very tired - hence the overall grade of 3.
