About this place Kimpton Cardinal Hotel

The Kimpton Cardinal fills the 1929 Reynolds Building on Fourth Street, the art deco tower that was R.J. Reynolds Tobacco's headquarters. Rooms are upscale and the building has its own French restaurant and bar, plus a bowling alley and old-school game rooms on the lower floors. It holds a 4.4 rating from about 1,090 Google reviews. Hel's, the most openly queer bar in town, is about a 5-minute walk away on Trade Street, and most downtown restaurants are closer still. It is the pick if you want to stay central and can pay for it.

Fantastic hotel ! Love the decor and the Art Deco vibe . Recommended to call ahead and ask where the free parking deck is ! Kids loved the rec room , and so did my husband and I . They have swapped out the ping pong table for seating . All the staff were very nice , and the room was clean and well Supplied with anything you might need . The Katherine had excellent cocktails and great staff. Food- excellent . The Kimpton has a fun social hour with wine and an appetizer too. Would definitely recommend !

Even on the surface, I immediately thought that this hotel was terrific. The architecture (apparently designed by the same person who created the Empire State Building) is stunning, with the interior feeling like a mix of southern charm and art deco touch. The staff was absolutely fantastic throughout our 2 day stay, the rooms were big and comfortable, and dining at The Katherine at the ground level was outstanding. The location is also very convenient, with lots of dining in the area (4th Street East and Trade Street were great for starters), and if you're visiting Wake Forest (maybe 10 minutes away) or other Winston-Salem or Durham-area schools, the drives are convenient. To add to the character of the place though was the benefit of exploring. I only managed downstairs, but in addition to finding a terrific gym, there are multiple lounges with couches and TVs with kitchy pictures and decorations throughout. But dig a little bit deeper, and you'll find a giant underground rec room with video games, 2 lanes of bowling, a little soccer pitch, and a slide if you want to skip the stairs. I only wish I'd had enough time to see what was towards the roof... Would absolutely visit here again and if either of my kids decides to go to school in this neck of the woods, I know where I'm staying.

A beautiful, historical hotel modeled after the Empire State Building at a great location in downtown Winston Salem. We were able to walk to many terrific restaurants, enjoy outdoor salsa dancing, a terrific jazz performance and some of the best coffee around. The Katherine restaurant at the hotel has the best chocolate chip cookies we have ever had. The staff goes above and beyond expectations. A special shout out to Kenya at the front desk. Highly recommend if staying in Winston Salem.
