The honest summary: Siem Reap is a temple town of about 245,000 people with a small but real gay scene: three gay bars and a gay-owned cocktail bar within a few hundred metres of Pub Street, nightly drag at Barcode, a men-only resort with a sauna, and several gay-owned hotels. It is relaxed rather than wild. Most visitors spend their days at Angkor and their evenings on a short walk between Barcode, GOD and Miss Wong.
Legal in one line: Same-sex relations have never been a crime in Cambodia, but there is no same-sex marriage or partnership, no legal gender recognition and no anti-discrimination law covering sexual orientation or gender identity.
The bars
Everything is in the old centre around Pub Street, the Old Market and The Lane (Street 26). You can walk the whole circuit in ten minutes.
- Barcode, New Street A in the Pub Street extension. The town's main gay bar, with a drag cabaret every night except Monday from around 21:30 (Nomadic Boys, July 2026). Google lists a 50% happy hour from 20:00 to 21:00; open until about 02:00, closed Mondays. Older guides place Barcode by the river near Wat Preah Prom Rath. That was its previous location.
- GOD (Gays On Display), in the lanes between Street 07 and 2 Thnou Street. Drag queens and go-go boys; Utopia (December 2024) and The Gay Passport (February 2025) put the drag show at 22:00 to 22:30. Google lists it daily from 20:00 to 02:00. Louder and later than Barcode.
- Miss Wong, Street 26 (The Lane). Gay-owned 1930s-Shanghai-style cocktail bar with a mixed crowd, open 17:00 to midnight, closed Mondays. The usual first drink of the night.
- Rendezvous, Street 07. A small, quiet bar that calls itself a gay bar with massage on Google, where it rates 4.8. Fewer guides list it, and published hours vary, so check its page before going.
- Men-only: MEN's Resort & Spa near Wat Po Lanka (about 15 rooms, saltwater pool, sauna, 18+), and 3 Monkeys Villa, a small French-owned guesthouse with a clothing-optional pool, 10 to 15 minutes west of Pub Street by tuk-tuk.
- Gay-owned, open to everyone: Rambutan Resort in Wat Damnak, under ten minutes' walk from the bars, and Viroth's Hotel, a design hotel off Wat Bo Road (both listed as gay-owned by Utopia, January 2025).
- Gay-friendly mainstream: The Aviary near the Old Market (Utopia lists it as gay- and lesbian-friendly) and La Fontaine de Tara on River Road (listed on misterb&b).
- Simply well located: Two Seasons on Night Market Street, Angkor Channary off Funky Lane and Sala Siem Reap on the road to the temples are mainstream hotels with good reviews. None of them markets itself to gay travellers.
- Heaven & Dreamboys: closed. Nomadic Boys reports it did not survive the pandemic, though some directories still list it.
- Barcode's riverside address: outdated. The bar is now on New Street A, by Pub Street.
- Golden Banana: the old name of the Rambutan property. There's no separate Golden Banana hotel to look for.
- Peacock Bar & Spa and Halo: new Google listings that call themselves gay bars. We couldn't confirm them in any guide as of October 2026, so they aren't listed here yet.
Massage and sauna
There's no stand-alone gay sauna in Siem Reap. The nearest thing is the sauna at MEN's Resort & Spa, which non-guests can use with a day pass of about $5 between 17:00 and 23:00 (Nomadic Boys, 2026). For massage, Sanmai Man Massage in Psah Chas Alley 1, behind the Old Market, is listed by Utopia as "for men, by men" (checked January 2025) and opens 13:00 to 23:00. Agree the price and type of massage first, and pay cash.

Where to stay
Siem Reap has more gay-owned and men-only places to stay than most Asian cities its size.
Same-sex couples rarely have trouble checking in at mid-range and upmarket hotels here. If you're booking a very cheap local guesthouse, it's worth reading recent reviews first.
Community and Pride
A Place To Be Yourself (APTBY) is an LGBTIQ+ drop-in centre run by the local NGO Beautiful Life Organisation, offering a safe space, counselling and sexual-health services. It's a service for local people, so contact it through aptby.org rather than turning up as a tourist.
Siem Reap Pride ran from 15 to 18 May 2026 under the theme "One Community, One Heart". It included the city's first public Pride Walk on Friday 15 May, which went from the Weekly Market on Street 18 to Heritage Walk (CambodgeMag). Dates for 2027 had not been announced at the time of writing. Nationally, Rainbow Community Kampuchea (RoCK) holds Pride Week in Phnom Penh around 17 May each year.

Practical tips
Getting there: Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) opened in October 2023 and replaced the old airport next to town. It is about 40 to 45 km east of the centre, roughly an hour by road, so book a transfer or use the airport shuttle. The old REP airport no longer takes commercial flights.
Temples: Angkor Wat is about 7 km north of town. Hire a tuk-tuk driver for the day through your hotel, and buy temple passes at the official ticket office or online. Sunrise trips leave before 5am.
Money and safety: US dollars are used everywhere alongside riel. Pub Street is busy and generally safe at night, but watch your phone and bag on the street and in tuk-tuks. Public displays of affection are uncommon among locals of any orientation. Holding hands won't usually cause trouble, but people may stare.
Health: Cambodia's national programme offers PrEP through community clinics, and Siem Reap was one of the first two provinces where it launched in 2019. Ask APTBY where to go.

FAQ
Is Siem Reap safe for gay travellers? Generally yes. Cambodia has never criminalised same-sex relations, the tourist centre is used to every kind of visitor, and the gay bars operate openly near Pub Street. There are no legal protections, though, so use the same common sense you would anywhere.
Are there gay bars in Siem Reap? Yes, a small cluster near Pub Street: Barcode, GOD and Rendezvous, plus the gay-owned Miss Wong.
Is there a gay sauna? Not a stand-alone one. MEN's Resort sells a sauna day pass to non-guests in the evening.
When is Pride? Siem Reap Pride took place on 15 to 18 May 2026, with the city's first Pride Walk. The 2027 dates weren't announced at the time of writing.
