Was on vacation, booked for more than 2 days, The old man at the counter is very rude. No room service even if you put tag on door. If you looking for 2 days stay you can adjust more than that you need to think. I overall had very overwhelming experience.

Terrible service from the manager. Had an issue to discuss with him, he just turned his back, walked into the back office and closed the door.

Kept on saying my card is invalid when in fact it isn't and then when I try the contact number it immediately ends my call so I try to call them based on the phone number on google multiple times but they never answer.

DEPOSIT MONEY NOT RETURNED. NOT A SINGLE CALL PICKED UP. the place was alright for convenience of location but i would advise against booking into this hotel. the “4 star hotel” is just a front, had we read the reviews before hand (if you haven’t already please read) the hallways had been full of laundry and the whole time, the rest of the stay was fine as we had spent most of it outside the hotel. if you want good service this isn’t the place to go, and they still haven’t returned our deposit after numerous attempts of calling them (almost every day) only to be ignored or hung up on. still yet to hear back on where the money has gone, all they said was 5 business days and it’s been well over that.

DO NOT STAY HERE !!! One of the worst hotels I have ever dealt with, cancelling our room a few days before hand, taking full payment not refunding the money after multiple phone calls and emails. Booking.com let this absolute disgrace of a hotel advertise on their platform. Place should be closed down with how they treat people, never wished somewhere to go out of business as much as this place in my life.

I sent messaged through my booking app to the hotel admin before checking in to inform my arrival at 9 pm. A lady welcomed me and I used my debit card used in my booking platform instead of credit card to pay for my deposit. The pre-authorization process deducted my balance of AUD200. Having been staying there for more than a week, the wifi didn't work during my first 4 days, and once it begun to work the hotel management informed me the wifi password. My room was very clean facing the main stree, I could open the sliding windows, and got basic amenities such as fridge, a small box of milk, coffemaker ironing board, among other things. However, there was room-make up during weekends. When about to check out around 9 am, I left my luggages with Paul - the old man some might say in these reviews, he was always kind to me. I picked up again my luggages around 11.30 and asked about the pre-authorization process and Paul told me from the perspective of a credit card mechanism. I kept asking through the message service on the booking platform for almost two weeks after my departure, and the hotel management found out that there were two bookings on their end. So, the deposit fund made via debit card was regarded as another booking on their account. I've finally got deposit fund refunded to my debit card account yesterday and message the management that I would put this review on Google map to provide another perspective. There was a time I encountered some guests were waiting for the hotel recipient staff to welcome but I advise them to call the hotel number (the hotel contact card is there on the reception counter) instead of waiting. Actually the telephone was ringing loudly. I would recommend this hotel as a temporary stay within walking distances to Melbourne CBD, and do not expect that the hotel staff will be always in check in counter. I think it's just the way of simplicity by hotel Sophia. My belongings were safe during my stay, I used the secure deposit box, and I kept everything in the room to be as is. Cheers!
