What reviewers say

Visitors often praise The Bank for its friendly staff, lively atmosphere, and good drinks, with some finding it a nice spot for a relaxed drink or to watch the world go by. However, several reviewers experienced significant issues with slow or absent food service, and one patron was refused service at the bar despite feeling they were not excessively drunk.

About this place The Bank Hotel

The Bank Hotel is a landmark King Street pub and one of Newtown's most reliably queer-friendly venues. Spread over several levels with a leafy beer garden, it has a long history of welcoming the inner west's LGBTQ+ crowd, with a particularly strong lesbian and FLINTA following. Its queer credentials centre on Birdcage, the Wednesday-night party running in the venue's Waywards ballroom since 2012, along with Cowboy Country queer line-dancing and other regular community nights. It is not a dedicated gay bar, but between its programming and its crowd it functions as one of Newtown's key queer social hubs, and it is a frequent venue for Mardi Gras-season and Queer Screen events.

Worst service I have ever experienced in an eating establishment. Promptly ordered our food as did the others in the party. Our food didn’t come out until 45 minutes later and everyone else in the party had received theirs and already finished eating. The place was empty so this was clearly not a lunch rush problem and others had the same menu item , the Sunday Roast, and received it promptly. The food was barely warm. No apologies or acknowledgment of the delay when the food was brought out. There are many better places to eat. Choose one of them.

As a pub/bar, it is nice and spacious setting and more importantly it is kids-friendly and it has a lift to go up and down for someone with a pram or wheelchair. Food and service is satisfactry and I highly recommen if you have a big group of people for casual celebration and catchup.
