Alex Hotel

Great bouji hotel. However the rooms have nowhere to put a bag or case and very little hanging space, especially for 2 people. Views are good and the roof top is a great addition in the sun or in the evening. However the doesnt do spirits so just wine. Weekends can be quite noisy outside but great bars, restaurants etc nearby.

Had a great stay at The Alex on the weekend. Perfect location can walk to alot tourist's sites. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Staff are lovely. Great boutique hotel highly recommend

Understated though finished in style. Very central though it still remains a calm oasis. The rooftop at night is beautiful. Just wish the rooms had fridges!

This hotel boasts an amazing location! 🙌 It's convenient for getting anywhere. You can even walk to the piers around Elizabeth Quay to see the quokkas. If you want to take a shortcut, you can take the train to Perth Station, or to Fremantle. For dining, there are plenty of great options around the hotel, including delicious curry, Italian, Korean food, and Subway. Shopping is easy around the station, with tons of brand-name stores and plenty of those adorable, fluffy UGG boots everyone loves! 😇 You can enjoy delicious waffles, chocolate pies, coffee, tea, and juice in the lounge from morning till night. While there's no refrigerator in the room, you can simply write your name on your items and leave them in the large shared refrigerator in the lounge – it's incredibly convenient! This hotel is fantastic! 🙌 It's incredibly relaxing. There are also art galleries, museums, and the Kerry Hill Design Theatre nearby. 😇

Was very very disappointed with my stay and would not stay here again. The service was terrible. I had a family emergency and had to change my booking. The receptionist was super rude and kept flagging policy forcing me to pay for nights I didn’t even stay in the hotel for. The rooms are old and my room was dirty, especially the bathroom. There are no ammenities in the room. The hotel is also near several new building sites and you can hear drilling the whole night. I would highly suggest not staying here, it’s not a pleasant experience.

We had our wedding here recently on the rooftop, what a fantastic venue but most of all an amazing team of people. The food was soooo good, the drinks were flowing and the team went over and above. Would highly recommend having an event here!

Great location, cozy little boutique hotel. Very professional and friendly and service by the gentleman on the check in table and the very friendly lady delivering my order to the room. Very clean and cosy - will definately be back.

I’d recommend reading recent reviews carefully before booking this hotel, so you have a clear sense of what to expect. I arrived at approximately 11am during heavy rain. While I completely understand that standard check-in is at 3pm, I was told I could wait in the upstairs area or pay an additional early check-in fee. Given the already high nightly rate, this felt a little unreasonable. There were also no umbrellas available for guests, as they were all in use at the time. What added to the frustration was seeing other guests checked in while I continued to wait, which felt inconsistent and not particularly considerate. I had booked a room with city views but was instead allocated a room with a frosted window facing a building. When I raised this with reception, I was told my original room wasn’t available at 1:50pm, so I had been moved to an alternative room to allow for an earlier check-in. I wasn’t asked whether I was happy to accept a different room type to check in slightly earlier, and this effectively resulted in a downgrade to a room I hadn’t booked—just to gain access earlier. I’ve also taken a photo through the mesh showing what was described as the “city view” provided. Unfortunately, the room itself didn’t reflect the price point ($261 for Friday Night and $276 for Saturday Night). There were no in-room amenities such as tea, coffee or bottled water, with everything located in shared areas. There’s also no desk in the room, which means relying on communal spaces again. The lack of a proper window—just a frosted door—makes the room feel quite enclosed. I also purchased a bottle of wine, but there was no mini fridge in the room to keep it chilled, which was disappointing. Noise insulation is another significant issue. Footsteps from the room above are clearly audible, and when the toilet upstairs is flushed, it genuinely sounds as though it’s coming from within the room. Music from other rooms is also audible, which makes it difficult to relax. It feels like soundproofing wasn’t given much consideration, and the hotel appears to be aware of this, as earplugs are provided for guests. Hallway noise adds to this problem. Door’s slamming, conversations outside rooms, room service activity, and loud banging from service areas are all clearly audible. It’s quite constant, and realistically, it’s difficult to rest or sleep without using earplugs. On a more positive note, the bed is very comfortable, the room is clean, and the shower has excellent water pressure. The shower gel provided was also a nice touch and much appreciated. I’d also like to mention Lauren, who I spoke with later in the evening regarding my concerns. She was empathetic, listened carefully, and genuinely seemed to care about guests having a good stay, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, she advised that a room with city views—the room type I had originally booked—was no longer available. There is also a $200 security deposit required, despite the room having no minibar and very limited amenities. That said, the deposit was refunded promptly, so it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, for the price, I expected more. There are certainly better value options available. The staff were friendly enough, and I imagine many of these points have been raised by other guests before. I wanted to share my experience so future guests can make an informed decision. P.S. The exposed concrete ceiling is definitely a distinctive design choice.

Hmmmm. No good. Lots of reasons but just no good. Room was a little unclean.. staff friendly enough but inattentive. Balcony room faced a brick wall.

The hotel is comfortable, quirky, and the cleaning staff sweet and does a good job. It is well located. Other than the cleaning staff, I rarely was welcomed by staff (or them even lifting their face up from screens) or when I checked in given any info about the hotel as someone there for the first time. It’s unusual in the hotel industry. I’m a very deep sleeper (I’ve slept through hurricanes), but was woken up around 11ish with very loud noise across the street. I travel a lot and have never called a front desk in the middle of the night. This time I did. I was told to call them tomorrow, but the chance of changing my room was probably not possible because the hotel was going to be full. It first bothered me it was put back on me to contact them. It also bothered me I was staying five nights and it was as though they couldn’t be bothered. I changed my scheduling to go to bed early and know I’d probably be reading from 11-1. (Just say no to Room 216.) I’m still giving four stars overall. I’m not sure it’s deserved, but it does have potential.
