About This Event
Queer Screen Film Fest is the smaller of the two festivals run by Queer Screen, the Sydney organisation behind the Mardi Gras Film Festival. Queer Screen started it in 2013 to give queer film a week away from the crush of Mardi Gras season; in its first year it partnered with Sydney Fringe. It runs in September, mostly at Event Cinemas George Street, followed by an online season for viewers anywhere in Australia.
The 14th edition ran in cinemas from 2 to 8 September 2026 with 28 films, then on demand from 9 to 16 September. The closing-night film was Sweet Milk Lake, an Australian drama in which Harvey Zielinski plays a trans man who travels to a country town to meet his estranged father. Tickets were $25 a session. The festival has also offered an A$10,000 production prize to an emerging filmmaker.
The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked; early September is the pattern. If you're in Sydney in February, the Mardi Gras Film Festival is the bigger of the two.
