Reel Desires: Chennai International Queer Film Festival (CIQFF)
About This Event
Reel Desires is Chennai's queer film festival, run by the LGBTQ+ collective Orinam with the Goethe-Institut Chennai and partners including Nirangal and SAATHII. Chennai has had queer screenings since 2004, and the Reel Desires name dates from 2013. The festival takes no corporate sponsorship and charges filmmakers no entry fee. Screenings are free, seats go to whoever arrives first, and there's no registration.
The most recent edition we could confirm is the 12th, held 16 to 18 August 2024 at the Goethe-Institut with about 20 films from nine countries. The 2023 edition ran 18 to 20 August with 30 films from 12 countries. Programmes mix Indian and international features, shorts and documentaries on sexuality and gender.
We couldn't confirm a 2025 or 2026 edition, and the festival site still describes the 2024 programme. The next dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
