Hostel DEN

The first hostel on our trip. Small but cozy, with excellent bathrooms and showers. Happy hour offers a free beer each. It's well-connected, with the subway just 10 minutes away. The real treats are the rooftop where you can smoke while drinking a beer at the tables, and especially the onsen-style public baths in the building opposite the hostel for just 500 yen (they close at 11:00 PM).

This was an amazing hostel ! It was exactly what you paid for— a bed, bathroom, and place shower! Staff is super friendly and helpful when I asked them how to get tickets for the Shinkansen!

This was my first time staying in a hostel. I wanted to experience something different. I'm so glad I did! While Hostel Den is very centrally located for a few train lines, it's a 20 minute walk to Akihabara if you want to get your steps in. But it's also walking distance to train stations, So I appreciated walking 3 minutes around the corner to the train station. It's 1 stop from Akihabara a few stops to Ueno station which is a major station for transfers. I appreciate the free alcohol during happy honor,and being able to socialize with other guests. Even if I don't drink. But what sets it apart is the staff! They are so nice,friendly, and easy to talk with! I would find myself having random conversations with them, about anything. They would teach me a few words in Japanese or about their culture. Share their food with me,or even recommend places to buy food/groceries nearby. It was definitely the highlight of my stay. Any questions or concerns where immediately addressed. I would definitely stay here again!

🔺Experience: The staff were very kind and helpful in resolving any issues I had in advance. I spent several comfortable days here. If you're traveling alone, you might want to consider this place! There's a drink time every evening from 7:00-8:00 PM, with one free drink provided. If you're traveling alone, you can enjoy this time to socialize; if you're traveling alone, you can reflect on your day while enjoying your drink. 🔺Location: The guesthouse is located a 10-minute walk from the furthest train station and a few minutes from the closest. There are many supermarkets nearby, all within a 10-minute walk. As mentioned in other reviews, it's also about a 20-minute walk to Akihabara, making it a very convenient location! There are also some pretty good coffee shops nearby! 🔺Accommodation: I stayed in a girls' dormitory. The beds were spacious, but if you're staying for several days and are in the middle, the space might be a bit cramped. The cleanliness was average. Many guests in the adjacent rooms were only staying for one or two days or overnight. However, their air conditioning is really strong; even in February, it felt colder than outside ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). They have luggage straps for securing luggage and a vertical locker, but this locker shouldn't be used for luggage; use it to store valuables. A towel and a pair of slippers are provided upon check-in. If you need a replacement towel, there's a 400 yen charge! It's recommended to bring your own towel to dry on the spot! The showers are on the same floor, separated for men and women. Basic facilities are sufficient and not too crowded, and they even provide curling irons and hair dryers! There are also coin-operated washing machines and dryers! Luggage storage is free after checking out on the same day; overnight storage is available for a fee! Overall, I think it's a good choice for backpackers or solo travelers, as the price is reasonable. I recommend this hostel! ( ̀⌄ ́)

The staff were very friendly. The building itself is old. It's for overseas guests. There are half-size lockers. The kitchen is spacious. There's a coin laundry and a clothes drying area on the roof. There's no storage space in the shower room or bathroom. It was warm in February, but the air conditioning was on and there was a draft? It was freezing cold even in bed. There were curtains at the head and foot of the bed, hanging loosely from hooks, so passersby could see inside the bottom bunk. I'd stay again if it was under 3,500 yen.

I'm only here for the praying room & toilet but it feels so nice and comfy already!

Really good price. The facilities are nice compared to the cost. On booking some reviews said the blankets were short and the room was cold. We did not have any issue whatsoever with that and we are both around 6,2 feet. The service was really good but we did not really need any extensive service so hard to say. Location is perfect.

This clean and comfortable hostel is conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from Kodenmacho Station. It's recommended for value-for-money travelers, solo travelers, and international guests. It's close to the station and very accessible. The common areas and bathrooms were clean, making for a safe and secure stay. The friendly and courteous staff were also a plus. It offers all the essential amenities, and the price is more than what you'd expect. This hostel is easy to use as a base for your stay in Tokyo.

It is located on a street very close to Kodenmacho Station and easy to find. The staff are friendly, and I used it for one day on a weekday so I didn't experience any inconvenience.

Unfortunately, my experience at this hostel wasn’t very positive. I ended up with bed bug bites all over my hand, and when I reported it to reception, the issue was brushed off as if it were my responsibility and dismissed as “just bugs,” which was disappointing and concerning. The nightly happy hour was also quite underwhelming. Most evenings it consisted only of the staff and myself, and the atmosphere felt dull rather than social. Overall, I found the staff to be less friendly than expected. Even small interactions felt unwelcoming; for example, although happy hour was advertised as starting at 7:00 pm, I was refused a drink at 6:59 and told to wait exactly one more minute before being served. These small but cumulative issues significantly affected my stay, and I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. I understand that others may have had a better experience; this was simply mine.
