Ueno Station Hostel Oriental I

Good points: The location is excellent. The other capsules and bedding are decent. Bad points: * Terrible layout. In recent capsule hotels, the lockers and capsule rooms are usually separated, but in this facility, the lockers are right next to the capsules. → This may seem convenient at first glance, but it's incredibly noisy at night and in the morning. Can't the management imagine that the sound of closing the lockers will be loud? (It's not the guests' fault → the layout is terrible.) * The curtains in each capsule are made of flimsy rods from a 100-yen store. What kind of nerve did they have to install them so that the curtain rods fall down even with just a slight opening and closing? That's why the interior is peeling off. Please install standard curtain rails and soundproof curtains. - The renovation is superficial and based on the above, and the flow of movement hasn't been designed with the guests in mind. Naturally, the finer details haven't been considered, and guests won't have a comfortable stay. Overall, if they could properly address the customer's perspective, it could become a comfortable and cost-effective facility. However, at this stage, it has no elements (other than its location) that can compete with capsule saunas near Kinshicho! I hope for future renovations.

"Iki Aufguss Sauna in Ameyoko" A compact hotel sauna located in Ameyoko. It's small and simply constructed, but it has a large Iki stove. Moreover, Aufguss sessions are held frequently. The bathroom has large windows, making it bright and spacious.

The sauna mats are self-washing. If the staff don't wash them, it doesn't feel clean.

Excellent value for money.

I originally booked for one week but ended up staying for 21 days, which says it all. This is easily one of the cleanest and most affordable hostels in Tokyo. ​The Highlights: ​Facilities: The hostel has 7 floors with great amenities. There is a free Onsen and sauna on the 4th floor, which is a rare find for a hostel. They provide free toothbrushes and personal care products. ​Cleaning & Comfort: The hotel is very clean. Unlike many other hostels, they change the bed linens every day and provide fresh towels for free, even if you need a second one during the day. ​Location: The location is unbeatable. It’s within walking distance to Ueno Station, Okachimachi Metro, and the Keisei Skyliner. Most tourist spots are either walkable or within an hour's reach. ​Common Areas: There’s a kitchen and a beautiful Zen garden on the 2nd floor, and laundry/dryer facilities on the 3rd. The common areas on the 2nd and 4th floors are great for relaxing. ​The Vibe: ​The staff are incredibly friendly and always smiling. While the interior and furniture are a bit older, it didn’t bother me at all. It actually gives the place a charming retro vibe rather than feeling "dated." ​Highly recommended for anyone looking for a central, clean, and authentic Tokyo experience!

For this location, at this price, and with a proper sauna, I have no complaints. If you want more than this at this price, you'll have to pay more and go somewhere else. This level of quality at this price is something you can only find in Japan in many ways. If I had to point out areas for improvement: ① Someone is always on video calls or working on the stairs, so please put up a clear sign to warn them. ② The sauna and bath manners are poor, mainly among foreigners. ③ Tattoos are prohibited, but they're still there. If it's prohibited, please explain it at the beginning or take measures to remove them on sight. That being said, I'm personally very satisfied and will continue to use this place.

The experience was great. The accommodation and bathroom facilities were very convenient, with free towels, bathrobes, shampoo, and shower gel provided. Everywhere was clean and odor-free, and there was no noise from other people. However, there's a railway line nearby, and trains frequently pass by. The noise seems to stop around 1 AM and start again around 5 AM, which might be inconvenient for light sleepers, including myself. But I wore noise-canceling headphones, so it wasn't a problem. There's a street right downstairs with lots of restaurants, which is very convenient.
