Family Bar is a large gay bar and club at 270 Karangahape Road, the street at the centre of Auckland's LGBTQ+ nightlife. Drag shows, karaoke and DJs run through the week. At weekends the dance floor fills up and the crowd is young, mixed and loud. It keeps very late hours, with the listing showing it open until 4am daily. It's fairly quiet early in the week and before 11pm, and busiest after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Genuinely the worst “gay bar” I’ve ever been to in the entire world. This is not a safe space for LGBTQ+ people. It’s a trashy bar that tolerates homophobia. No queer DJ would ever play pit bull.
