Flux Bar

Flux is an alternative bar and live-performance space in the BOXed Quarter on St Asaph Street, on the southern edge of Christchurch's central city. It focuses on new and interesting music, and it is one of the venues most closely tied to the city's queer scene, regularly hosting recurring LGBTQ+ dance parties and events such as Queer Horizons and Tender Buttons that create a safe, high-energy space for Otautahi's rainbow and BIPOC communities. It is a gay-friendly rather than a dedicated gay bar, opening on Friday and Saturday nights, and is listed on Travel Gay as one of Christchurch's welcoming venues. With no dedicated gay bar left in the city since Cruz closed, Flux and a handful of other central bars carry the after-dark queer social life.
