What a great experience! That place is super clean, the staff is wonderful!!! It was a super cool moment 🤍 I’ve tried differents sauna (in France) before and it’s by far, the cleaniest one! 👌🏼

Menfriends is a warm, welcoming place where you can truly relax and be yourself. The new owners are absolutely lovely and have put so much effort into making the space look amazing—and it really shows. The staff are just as wonderful: super friendly and genuinely welcoming. I highly recommend it, and I always make sure to visit whenever I’m back in New Zealand on holiday.

What an amazing venue. Very clean and tidy. Well decorated with a great mixture of places to explore. If your in christchurch, highly recommend stopping buy.

Great social atmosphere, and sauna and facilities are great, new ownership are doing great stuff refreshing things too!

super expensive price to enter, service from one of the attendants is super rude, this is the second time the same guy has been rude to me, I will not go back to this sauna, it is ridiculous to pay $35 and not be able to leave and come back later description of the man who was rude to me at reception (man around 48 years old, red-haired with a big beard and wears glasses)

Visiting from Auckland, lots of walking room, high ceilings, friendly staff. The food & drinks list is large & reasonable! I wish there was a place like this in Auckland this seems to be above & beyond the Auckland Saunas. Would love the owner to expand to Auckland him & his team are doing a great job!

I don't like criticising a business, however almost every visit here has left a bad taste. Again it's the staff, as so many other reviews here say. The arrogant and rude attitude towards customers is common. I've not only seen customers treated bad, in full view of others, but have experienced it first hand. Last time i saw the ginger-haired staff member literally yell at a guy that was standing with 2 friends near the coffee area, to "return to the charge room or leave" because he wasnt wearing the correct attire for that particular theme night. It was just 30 mins before closing! There's a way to be respectful and talk to customers, and this isn't the way to do it. It was cringeworthy. Another time, I was barked at by the same staff member, because I was sitting on the edge of the spa, which evidently, could damage it!? "STUART WILL BAN YOU IF HE SAW THAT" he said, in a reference to the owner. On another occasion, I had paid for nibbles and drinks during my visit, and after I departed, the ginger guy sent a younger staff member out into the street and chased me, demaning I return to pay for a chocolate bar and can of drink! I returned inside and showed bank transactions on my phone. This place has so many appalling staff and issues around awful customer service, I genuinely don't know how they survive. I see they're selling the business, so if and when there's new managers, the first thing they should do is get rid of all the staff and instill some people who care for the customer. You only have to read the reviews online on Centurion sauna in Auckland to see a gay business that gets it right.

I’d say overall I had a decent experience here—Christchurch’s only gay sauna, with a two-floor layout, cruising maze, spa jacuzzi, steam room, outdoor garden, free Wi-Fi, and adult shop. It’s a unique space for relaxation and socialising. However, the upstairs rooms felt quite dated—some of the bed covers were torn and uncomfortable, which affected the overall comfort of my visit. I also felt that some staff members could benefit from customer service training. While it’s understandable that rules need to be enforced, reminders were sometimes delivered in a confrontational tone. A more respectful and friendly approach would make the environment much more welcoming. That said, the facility has a lot to offer. With improved service and refreshed furnishings, this could be a much stronger venue. I hope management considers upgrading the rooms and investing in staff development—there’s real potential here.

Visited again after a few years and see this establishment still has the same officious and unfriendly customer service. It appears the venue may have issues with drug use and therefore assumes all customers should be regarded with suspicion. For context, I arrived at reception, paid the entry fee, then casually had a sip out of my water bottle. The guy behind the counter then proceeded to have a meltdown (!) and then said I couldn’t enter because there might be something illicit in my drink. The attitude was an aggressive and accusatory and completely uncalled for. So I got a refund and left. Surprised this place is still in business with attitudes like this.

I flew down from Napier to check this place out. Could not fault it. Great staff, clean enough, beverages, and on sleaze night - first Saturday of the month - smoking machines in the cubical area. Sexy as. Great little place.

One particular staff member has outed at least one straight acting client to their family. If you think this place is discrete, think again!
