About this place Athena Motel

Athena Motel is a mainstream gay-friendly motel at 160 Riccarton Road in Christchurch, New Zealand. It isn't a gay venue. It's a standard Kiwi motel, with self-contained units and parking at the door, which suits road-trippers starting or ending a South Island drive. Google reviews average 4.4, from a small number of ratings. Riccarton Road has plenty of cheap eateries, and Westfield Riccarton is nearby. Hagley Park and the city centre are about 10 to 15 minutes away by bus or car, and the University of Canterbury is close too. Christchurch's small gay scene centres on the central city, with occasional events during the city's Pride season.

We stayed in a larger suite and were very impressed by The Athena. The team was friendly and efficient (shout out to Candy and housekeeping!). The room was tidy, quiet and located just across the road from Christchurch's biggest mall. The beds were comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was great.

We use Athena Motel on a regular basis for our staff when working in Christchurch. Sometimes its a last minute thing depending on driving hours and flights. Staff are very accommodating and can do late check-in.

Room was booked for overnight before flying out. Smallish buy more than sufficient for our needs. Walking distance to mall and restaurants. Awesome service
