The honest summary: Seoul has no gay hotels. What matters is which side of the scene you want to be near. Stay in Itaewon if you are here for the clubs, which run until 06:00 or later at weekends. Stay around Jongno 3-ga if you want the Korean bars, the palaces and the old centre on your doorstep. The two areas are about 20 minutes apart by taxi. None of the hotels below markets itself to gay travellers; we list them for location and Google ratings. Same-sex couples sharing a room is routine at international chains in Seoul, though smaller Korean motels can be less predictable.
Itaewon: for Homo Hill and the clubs
- Hamilton Hotel, 179 Itaewon-ro – the obvious choice for location. Homo Hill starts just behind it and the clubs on Itaewon-ro are a few minutes' walk. It is a large, older hotel (about 4.0 on Google from 1,500 reviews); guests mention dated rooms and weekend street noise.
- Mondrian Seoul Itaewon, 23 Jangmun-ro – a design hotel at the western end of Itaewon, about 15 minutes' walk from Homo Hill (4.4 from over 2,000 reviews).
- Grand Hyatt Seoul, 322 Sowol-ro – five-star on the Namsan slope above Itaewon, with river views; a 15-20 minute walk downhill to the bars or a short taxi back up (4.4 from nearly 9,000 reviews).
- The May Hotel, 10 Supyo-ro 26-gil – inside the Jongno 3-ga bar block; several gay bars are a few minutes' walk (4.0 from about 120 reviews).
- SimpleStay Hotel, 11 Supyo-ro 26-gil – on the same street, small and modern (4.7 from about 230 reviews).
- Lotte Hotel Seoul, 30 Eulji-ro – the big five-star in Myeongdong, about 15 minutes' walk or one subway stop from Jongno, and close to the Pride route around Euljiro in June.
- GLAD Yeouido – a business hotel on Yeouido island, useful for work trips; about 20 minutes by taxi to Itaewon.
- SM boutique hotel (Dongdaemun-gu), Dominique Hotel (Gwanak-gu, near Sillim) and the Gocheok Dome apartment-hotel in Guro are budget options a long way from both gay districts.
- The subway stops around midnight, so staying close to the area you plan to go out in saves on late taxis.
- Some visitors use a 24-hour gay sauna as a cheap overnight stop. That works for a night, not a holiday.
- From Incheon airport, the AREX express reaches Seoul Station in about 43 minutes; from there it is one taxi ride to Itaewon or Jongno.
