Der Halloween Carnaval in West Hollywood begann 1987 und entwickelte sich zu einer der größten Halloween-Straßenpartys der USA, berühmt für aufwendige Drag- und Gruppenkostüme am Santa Monica Boulevard. Es ist keine Pride-Veranstaltung, findet aber im Herzen des Rainbow District der Stadt statt, und die Menge sowie die Kostüme sind so queer, wie Halloween nur sein kann.
Seien Sie sich klar darüber, was es jetzt ist, denn es ist geschrumpft. Die Veranstaltung fand bis 2019 jedes Jahr statt, mit mehreren Bühnen und prominenten Gastgebern. Der Stadtrat sagte sie 2020 und 2021 wegen der Pandemie ab und entschied sich 2022, stattdessen kleine Veranstaltungen in lokalen Bars zu finanzieren. 2023 kehrte sie in reduziertem Umfang zurück, und die Ausgaben 2024 und 2025 behielten dieses Format bei: eine kostenlose Ein-Nacht-Straßenparty von 18 bis 23 Uhr auf einem einen Kilometer langen, gesperrten Abschnitt des Santa Monica Boulevard zwischen Doheny Drive und La Cienega, mit einer DJ-Bühne in San Vicente, Food Trucks und den Kostümen. Auf der Straße darf kein Alkohol getrunken werden, Rucksäcke sind verboten (durchsichtige Taschen sind in Ordnung), und die Stadt rät von der Mitnahme von Kindern und Haustieren ab.
Es findet am 31. Oktober selbst statt, unabhängig vom Wochentag. Die eigentliche Action ist die Kostümparade entlang der Bürgersteige und die Bars auf dem Strip, The Abbey, Rocco's und die anderen, die Eintritt verlangen und lange Schlangen haben; kommen Sie früh oder reservieren Sie einen Tisch. Die Hotels in West Hollywood sind klein und für Halloween ausgebucht, und die Preise für Fahrdienste nach 23 Uhr sind brutal, also bleiben Sie, wenn möglich, in fußläufiger Entfernung.
Die letzte Ausgabe fand am Freitag, den 31.
