O Halloween Carnaval de West Hollywood começou em 1987 e se tornou uma das maiores festas de rua de Halloween dos EUA, famosa por fantasias elaboradas de drag queens e em grupo na Santa Monica Boulevard. Não é um evento de Pride, mas acontece no coração do Rainbow District da cidade, e a multidão e as fantasias são tão queer quanto o Halloween pode ser.
Seja claro sobre o que é agora, porque diminuiu. O evento aconteceu todos os anos até 2019, com vários palcos e apresentadores famosos. O City Council o cancelou em 2020 e 2021 por causa da pandemia, e em 2022 optou por financiar pequenos eventos em bares locais. Ele voltou em 2023 em uma escala reduzida, e as edições de 2024 e 2025 mantiveram esse formato: uma festa de rua gratuita de uma noite, das 18h às 23h, em um trecho fechado de um milha da Santa Monica Boulevard entre Doheny Drive e La Cienega, com um palco de DJ em San Vicente, food trucks e as fantasias. Não é permitido beber na rua, mochilas são proibidas (bolsas transparentes são permitidas), e a cidade desencoraja trazer crianças e animais de estimação.
Acontece no próprio dia 31 de outubro, qualquer que seja o dia da semana. A verdadeira ação é o desfile de fantasias pelas calçadas e pelos bares da região, The Abbey, Rocco's e os outros, que cobram entrada e têm longas filas; chegue cedo ou reserve uma mesa. Os hotéis de West Hollywood são pequenos e esgotam para o Halloween, e o preço dinâmico do rideshare após as 23h é brutal, então fique a uma curta distância a pé, se puder.
A última edição aconteceu na sexta-feira, 31 de outubro de 2025, e a cidade descreveu a multidão apenas como milhares de participantes; as grandes estimativas de multidão que você vê online datam dos anos anteriores à pandemia.
