Le Halloween Carnaval de West Hollywood a débuté en 1987 et est devenu l'une des plus grandes fêtes de rue d'Halloween aux États-Unis, célèbre pour ses costumes élaborés en drag et en groupe sur Santa Monica Boulevard. Ce n'est pas un événement de la Fierté, mais il se déroule au cœur du Rainbow District de la ville, et la foule ainsi que les costumes sont aussi queer que possible pour Halloween.
Soyez clair sur ce que c'est maintenant, car il a rétréci. L'événement a eu lieu chaque année jusqu'en 2019, avec plusieurs scènes et des animateurs célèbres. Le Conseil Municipal l'a annulé en 2020 et 2021 en raison de la pandémie, et en 2022 a choisi de financer de petits événements dans les bars locaux à la place. Il est revenu en 2023 à une échelle réduite, et les éditions 2024 et 2025 ont conservé ce format : une fête de rue gratuite d'une nuit, de 18h à 23h, sur un tronçon fermé d'un mile de Santa Monica Boulevard entre Doheny Drive et La Cienega, avec une scène DJ à San Vicente, des food trucks et les costumes. Il n'y a pas d'alcool dans la rue, les sacs à dos sont interdits (les sacs transparents sont acceptés), et la ville déconseille d'amener des enfants et des animaux de compagnie.
Il a lieu le 31 octobre lui-même, quel que soit le jour de la semaine. La véritable animation réside dans le défilé de costumes le long des trottoirs et dans les bars sur la strip, The Abbey, Rocco's et les autres, qui facturent un droit d'entrée et ont de longues files d'attente ; arrivez tôt ou réservez une table. Les hôtels de West Hollywood sont petits et se remplissent complètement pour Halloween, et les prix du covoiturage après 23h sont brutaux, alors séjournez à distance de marche si vous le pouvez.
La dernière édition a eu lieu le vendredi 31 octobre 2025, et la ville a décrit la foule uniquement comme des milliers de participants ; les grandes estimations de foule que vous voyez en ligne datent des années précédant la pandémie.
