About This Event

West Hollywood's Halloween Carnaval started in 1987 and grew into one of the biggest Halloween street parties in the US, famous for elaborate drag and group costumes on Santa Monica Boulevard. It is not a Pride event, but it happens in the heart of the city's Rainbow District, and the crowd and the costumes are about as queer as Halloween gets.

Be clear about what it is now, because it has shrunk. The event ran every year until 2019, with several stages and celebrity hosts. The City Council cancelled it in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic, and in 2022 chose to fund small events at local bars instead. It came back in 2023 on a reduced scale, and the 2024 and 2025 editions kept that format: a free, one-night street party from 6pm to 11pm on a one-mile closed stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and La Cienega, with one DJ stage at San Vicente, food trucks and the costumes. There's no drinking on the street, backpacks are banned (clear bags are fine), and the city discourages bringing children and pets.
