About this place Why Not

Why Not on Tiefer Graben in the 1st district is Vienna's most consistently visited gay club — the venue that has served as the default nightlife destination for the city's gay community and for visiting gay tourists for well over two decades. The location is central: Tiefer Graben runs parallel to the Wipplingerstraße in the old city, within walking distance of the Stephansplatz and the entire first-district tourist infrastructure. The club occupies a basement space with the unpretentious character of a venue that knows its purpose and delivers it without excessive decoration. Regular Friday and Saturday club nights run chart-friendly and house music to a crowd that is predominantly gay male but inclusive of the broader queer community. Why Not is the answer for visitors who want a proper gay club experience in Vienna without navigating the outer-district alternatives — it is central, accessible, consistently busy on weekends, and operates with the ease of a venue that has been doing this for long enough to be good at it.

It’s all a pretty basic take on Vietnamese food. You don’t get the exploding depth of flavors in the pho bo and other dishes that you always hope for when you find a new Vietnamese restaurant. It was at best “just alright.” I don’t think they boiled the stock long enough, or maybe didn’t use enough soup bones. I’m not sure but the flavor just wasn’t strong enough, so I was a little disappointed. It’s one of those places that’s totally fine for a quick meal, but you’ll be adding sriracha to the soup to kick it up a notch, whereas if you have a good broth to start you don’t ever have to do that. The cooks are super friendly though. Nice guys. The portions are large and the prices are cheap. So despite a watery broth you don’t feel taken advantage of or anything. All very fair.

Stayed at a nearby hotel, walked in and ordered take away. They controlled the "heat" of the tilapia. It was delicious, hearty portion of rice and side salad. Quick service and reasonable prices. Just a few tables. Would definitely eat there again.

I am from Vienna so I've been to 'Why Not' many many times. Alone or with friends. I have to admit, my first impression wasnt that good because the restaurant is very small and doesnt look elegant or cozy. But I love it. The food ist awesome (tried many things there) , the size of the portions is good and the price is good. Phan, the owner, and his colleague (both are cooking, but only Phan talks good german) are both very friendly and will do their best to make you feel good. Something else I like about the restaurant is the music: Mostly rock/metal stuff playing. Not everyones music but me and my friends love it. I always enjoy going there and would totally recommend the restaurant(: but dont expect elegant and cozy rooms

Small Vietnamese Restaurant. Metallic and heavy rock music inside. Mostly takeaway. But they use MSG/Acinomoto/Mono Sodium Glutamate. Had heart palpation's, warm feet and hands all night long. The food is plentiful and tastes good if you are not overly sensitive to MSG.
