I have a bitter taste in my mouth for having chosen this magnificent and highly reputable hotel, only to encounter this kind of disappointment.
Indeed, my daughter and I had come to spend 36 hours in Brussels to discover the city. The place and the date were particularly symbolic for me (my late father, who passed away on May 2, 2016, adored this city).
The day after our arrival, on the evening of Saturday, May 2, 2016, I received an email from my bank immediately notifying me of a €300 charge to the Hotel Amigo. Thinking my card had been used fraudulently, I immediately called reception, but they were unavailable and said they would call me back. No call back. Just as my daughter and I were about to go to sleep, I ended up calling back myself (!!). The receptionist didn't understand how to resolve the issue and transferred me to her manager, who, instead of being understanding and kind, ended the conversation by telling me it was a mistake on my bank's part, that I had to sort it out with them (!!), and that no charge had been made. I even have a photo of the proof of this charge…
I can't understand how they can treat customers like that, especially in a hotel of this caliber.
Fortunately, when we checked out the next morning, the manager on duty was very kind, although he couldn't offer any explanation for the error. I hope, as he indicated, that my account will be credited with the amount within 72 hours.
Another disappointment at the restaurant during breakfast. Indeed, the buffet falls far short of the standards expected of a 5-star hotel (choice, quality of products, presentation), and the high price of 58 euros per person (the price of breakfast in a Parisian luxury hotel) is, in my opinion, unjustified. We were disappointed by the hot dishes we ordered: my daughter ordered a runny omelet, which was served overcooked; I ordered porridge with red berries, which was barely lukewarm (quite sickening), in a soup bowl (the presentation wasn't even careful, it felt like eating mush) with a tiny saucer of red berries served alongside, which the waitress thankfully offered to refill. I hate waste, and I couldn't even finish my "soup bowl." Furthermore, the waitress, who was very rushed (even though the breakfast room was far from full), was barely pleasant and deliberately (or perhaps not?) forgot to offer me lemon and milk with my tea (while she had offered it to the elderly couple at the next table). Fortunately, another, undoubtedly more experienced waiter made up for the less-than-stellar service from his young colleague.
I've had the opportunity to travel to magnificent hotels thanks to my previous job, and thanks to my partner's current job, and I've never experienced anything like this before. It's a shame, because the hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and very well located, and most of the staff are friendly and polite.
