About this place Bar De Loge

Bar De Loge is the kind of gay bar that cities lose and then miss: a proper neighbourhood local with a loyal regular crowd, a relaxed atmosphere, and no particular agenda beyond providing a good space for Ghent's gay community to gather. The Jakobijnenstraat location is in the city centre, walkable from Ghent's main tourist sights and the other gay venues. The bar draws an older average age than Pink Flamingo — more 30s and 40s than students — and the atmosphere is correspondingly more conversational and less club-oriented. The beer selection is Belgian and treated with appropriate seriousness. De Loge is the bar you go to when you want a proper conversation rather than a night of dancing, and it fulfils that role with the particular grace of a venue that understands its community well. Regular customers include people who have been coming for twenty years, which says more about the bar than any description could.

Ideal for a drink and possibly a snack. Busy busy and known to youth. Good sanitary facilities and friendly service. Street terrace available.

An absolute gem! Wandered in for dinner around 6pm/ 18:00 and ended up staying for hours reading (they had some magazines in English), then enjoyed the live music, a local band, at 9pm/ 21:00. They were extremely talented. A cute, cozy spot to relax for awhile. Fyi, menu for food is extremely limited, with 3-5 options for food, ranging from nachos to more substantial fare, some of which is vegetarian and vegan. A much larger selection of beer, of course. So happy I found this cafe!!!

We were going to eat and drink here after the good reviews, but the menu choices today (17/5) were VERY limited. Shame, as it looked like it could have been a good evening with lots of lovely beer options. If it's a bar, call it a bar.

The cafe has a great selection of draft and bottled beers of high quality for a really modest price! But what makes this place more special is the people, from the friendly owners to the amazing stuff. The place feels more like a family or tribe than just a regular bar. It's certainly somewhere you want to come back to!

It's not really located at the center of Ghent, but it's not that far, either (I think about a 10 minute walk away). We were looking for a place where we could enjoy a fresh beer and maybe play a few board games. Friends recommended this one, and we had a lovely evening (one of those where time truly does fly). Admittedly, many of the games had cards or pawns missing, but when you get a little creative you can fix that easily. The staff don't mind explaining what the various beers are made of, and they don't shy away from making a suggestion either (on the contrary, they seemed to enjoy it). It's not spacious, but it is cozy. We'll go back and try the space on the roof (we only found out at the very end that you can sit there, too...)

The place wasn't even at half capacity but waiting time for a simple coffee and breakfast/lunch was more than 50 minutes. Pancakes were ordered but they weren't able to serve them, only they forgot to mention it. Avoid at all costs, make sure to make a reservation at Gust accross the street

This cafe was near where we were staying and we were immediately drawn to the place, especially as the beer was cheap and there were vegan/vegetarian food choices. We chose a good night as there was also free entertainment from a Canadian folk band, who had their local following. For around 50 Euros we ate, drank and took in the vibe into the evening. If you are looking for a place with sound staff and a chilled place to relax, inside or out (they have an outside seating or area upstairs) in Ghent this is it!!

A beautiful and cozy café, not in the main center, but still very close. The staff was very friendly describing all the food and beer types with patience.

We found this little gem just down from the AirBnB we were staying in and it was a delight, so much so that we visited twice in our four-day stay. It's a lovely, intimate space and perfect for the sort of thinky, chin-scratchy experimental jazz gig we enjoyed on our second visit. The staff are lovely and seem to derive a real joy from running this place. They alternate between working and then sitting down for a drink with the regulars. But the best thing is the vegan/veggie friendliness. We were one vegan and one veggie in our party, and we were delighted to find vegan dishes and adaptaions of non-vegan dishes with soya alternatives, such as the vegan spaghetti bolognaise. Prices, for such an exorbitant city as Ghent, are decidedly reasonable; a mug of bonkers-strength Belgian beer is 3 EUR, I think, while the gigantic vegan spag-bol was all of 9.5 EUR. All in all, can't recommend it highly enough!
