About this place Khidi

Khidi ? the name means 'bridge' in Georgian ? occupies the raw concrete space beneath the Metekhi Bridge in the heart of the old city, a few minutes' walk from the sulphur baths and the medieval Metekhi Church perched on the cliff above the river. The setting is as dramatically Georgian as anything in Tbilisi: you descend under a fifteenth-century bridge to dance in a space that vibrates when trucks cross above, with the Mtkvari River a few metres away and the old city climbing the cliffs on both sides. The club operates on a smaller scale than Bassiani and runs a programme that leans slightly more experimental ? the bookings include local Georgian DJs and producers from the city's electronic music scene alongside international acts, and the music policy allows for more genre range: ambient, industrial, techno, and occasional collaborative live-electronic performances. The crowd is similar to Bassiani's in its inclusive character, with a strong queer presence both in the regular clientele and in the DJs and artists who are booked. The physical space is a single main room with exposed concrete walls, minimal decoration, and a sound system that has been optimised for the unusual acoustic conditions of the bridge underpass. The intimacy of the space ? capacity is significantly smaller than Bassiani ? means the relationship between DJ and crowd is more immediate, and sets that might feel distant in a larger room land with more directness here. Khidi has a programme of events that extends beyond pure club nights: occasional film screenings, art installations, and community gatherings have been hosted in the space, reflecting its position as part of the broader Tbilisi creative underground rather than purely a nightlife venue. The club's social media channels (Instagram is most active) are the best source of information on upcoming events. The location in the old city makes Khidi easy to combine with a walk through Abanotubani, the Narikala fortress area, and the Sololaki streets before the evening begins. It is also close to the boutique hotels and guesthouses of the old city that are preferred by LGBTQ+ visitors.
