via Stay22About this place TrauerSpiel
TrauerSpiel is a gay bar in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, where locals go to drink and socialize under the gaze of a hundred dead Germans.
The name means “mourning” in German, but don’t let that fool you. This isn’t a sad place. Owner Cord Funke has filled the walls with framed portraits of famous people, alive and dead, and the collection keeps growing. It gives the place a real personality, unlike anywhere else.
Berlin has plenty of high-energy gay clubs, but TrauerSpiel isn't one of them. This is a low-key neighborhood bar. Think relaxed vibes, easy conversation, and genuine hospitality. You’ll find it in Prenzlauer Berg, a neighborhood full of cafes and shops, popular with both locals and visitors.
It's easy to get to, too. Just hop on the U-Bahn to Eberswalder Straße or Schönhauser Allee stations. For a quiet night out, or a more subdued entry into Berlin’s LGBTQ+ scene, this place feels authentic, a real local haunt.

Great bar with great staff... I always love being a guest there... I've known this bar for almost 8 years and I enjoy going there every now and then...
Always worth a visit! A little insider tip 😉
A relaxed pub with super friendly staff. I was there once with some colleagues on a Monday evening and we wanted to have some snacks with our beers, but unfortunately they were out of snacks. The lovely bartender then zipped off and got some especially for us. Amazing! The beer selection is also great, and the prices are totally fair. Don't let the name put you off, it's definitely worth a visit.
Best Mexican restaurant in town.
"A Little Gem in the Neighborhood" For me, Trauerspiel is one of the most authentic spots in the neighborhood. If you're looking for a bar that's genuine and where you can just be yourself, this is the place for you. What makes this bar special: Queer-friendly & Open: The crowd is wonderfully diverse and very queer-oriented, which creates an extremely relaxed, respectful, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. You feel safe and welcome from the moment you arrive. Honest Bar Vibe: No pretentiousness, just a rustic, cozy place where you can happily linger. The service is warm and friendly, and always up for a chat. Beer & Drinks: The drinks selection is down-to-earth and good – perfect for a relaxing beer after work or a long evening with friends. A quick note for the summer: Unfortunately, there's very limited outdoor seating (about 2-3 beer benches). So, if you absolutely want to sit in the sun, you'll have to be quick or get lucky. But honestly, it's much cozier and more atmospheric inside anyway! Conclusion: An absolute recommendation for anyone looking for a charming, queer neighborhood bar with heart. I always love coming back!
