About this place MEININGER Hotel Köln West

MEININGER Hotel Köln West is a branch of the German hotel-hostel chain, on Stolberger Strasse in Braunsfeld, a residential district west of Cologne's centre. It is a mainstream, gay-friendly hotel, not a gay venue. As at other MEININGER sites, you can book a private double or a bed in a shared dorm, and the chain typically has a guest kitchen, a lounge and a bar. Google reviews average 4.1 from almost 1,400. It is cheap rather than central. Allow about 20 minutes by tram to Rudolfplatz and the Schaafenstrasse area, where most of Cologne's gay bars are. During Cologne Pride and Carnival, book well ahead; prices climb across the city.

My appointments took me to this hotel for five days. I liked the lounge area and the bar. The beds were far too small for my liking (80cm wide). The breakfast was very basic, but the coffee was good! The guests were much too young and the noise level too high. I wasn't aware that this hotel is designed for school groups and backpackers. That explains a lot in retrospect.

For the price, you really can't complain. Everything was clean and the staff very friendly. The kitchen is a bit small, though, and a little more privacy by the beds, perhaps with curtains, would be perfect. Nevertheless, it's absolutely recommendable for an overnight stay. There's a bus stop right next door, and a REWE supermarket is nearby. The S-Bahn (suburban train) or tram is about an 8-minute walk away. The location is a bit out of the way, but it's really great for the price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed here for one night after a football match. The hotel is ideally located for walking to the stadium. The room was clean and equipped with everything we needed. The breakfast buffet was plentiful. We were very satisfied.
