About this place Wyndham Duisburger Hof

The Wyndham Duisburger Hof (formerly the Steigenberger Duisburger Hof) is a long-standing four-star hotel on König-Heinrich-Platz in the heart of Duisburg's Innenstadt, a short walk from the city's small cluster of gay bars in the Dellviertel. Rooms are comfortable and business-standard, with a central location that puts the main station, shopping and nightlife within easy reach. Like all mainstream hotels it welcomes LGBTQ+ guests without fuss, and its central position makes it a practical base for exploring Duisburg and the wider Ruhr region, with Düsseldorf and Cologne both a short train ride away.

Spacious rooms, modernly furnished. Otherwise somewhat dated, and the food offered at the event wasn't worth the money.

I had a standard room, which was really very small. Room service didn't come to make the bed, etc. The windows could only be fully opened, not tilted. The minibar was empty, and there was a space heater standing around...

We cycled the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path and stayed overnight at the Duisburger Hof before our return journey by train. We were able to park our bikes in the covered courtyard. The room and breakfast were fine. Since rain threatened in the evening, they lent us an umbrella. The hotel is very centrally located, so we could easily walk to restaurants and a supermarket. The main train station is a 5-minute bike ride away. For us, the hotel was perfect. A portable heater in the room seemed suspicious. The window had been temporarily sealed with insulating tape. There had obviously been problems with it in winter.

I have very mixed feelings about my stay. First, the positives: The staff were consistently very polite and helpful, and check-in was absolutely quick and easy. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic, very varied, and offered something for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. The central location is another plus. Unfortunately, the price of €190 per night is completely inappropriate for the condition of the room and the hotel. While it looks nice, there are significant technical issues: The plug for the bathtub was missing in my bathroom, so I couldn't take a bath. The kettle was broken and leaked, making it impossible to make coffee or tea in the room. Furthermore, there was scaffolding directly outside my window, and the walls were so thin that I could hear every word my neighbors were saying. There were also problems with the service: The sauna was only available upon request, making spontaneous relaxation impossible. The coffee machine was broken at breakfast, and the system with the coffee pots was completely useless, as you never knew if more coffee would be coming. I didn't say anything on the spot because I just wanted to go to bed after a long day, but for this price, I simply expect the equipment to work. I almost feel sorry for the genuinely nice staff who are trying their best, but management urgently needs to invest in maintenance.
