Wyndham Duisburger Hof

The Duisburger Hof scores points primarily due to its excellent location. It's about a ten-minute walk from the main train station, the subway/tram is a three-minute walk away, and the pedestrian zone begins practically right outside the door. The historic building itself is also very beautiful and is located directly next to the opera house, which gives the hotel a special charm. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, which made the stay pleasant. However, it's noticeable in some places that the building is showing its age. The rooms were particularly bothersome due to their poor soundproofing: conversations and noises from the hallway or stairwell were clearly audible in the room, which detracted from a restful stay. Unfortunately, breakfast was only average. The selection seemed somewhat uninspired; the cold cuts and cheese appeared to be from the previous day, and there was little fresh fruit and vegetables. For a four-star hotel, the breakfast offering was generally underwhelming. Conclusion: Top location, beautiful historic building, and friendly staff – but significant shortcomings in room comfort and breakfast. For a 4-star hotel, there is clearly room for improvement here.

Ideal for an evening at a German opera, concert, or ballet. 100m from entrance to theater entrance.

Booked a large room. Bathroom no. 157 was okay, very good. TV broken, no service, room itself very worn. Breakfast at €18 was extremely mediocre, actually bad.

Cleanliness inadequate, room cold upon arrival

We stayed at the hotel over the weekend and were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was fantastic, the rooms were great, the staff was excellent, and everything was top-notch. We would love to come back again.

I was there for a conference. It's a great old building right across from the theater. The location is really good, just a 10-minute walk from the main train station. The food (three meals plus snacks, etc.) was good, with plenty of choice. Unfortunately, that's where the good experiences end. It seems like there's a backlog of renovations, as you can see in the pictures. The rooms are very noisy, and the beds are quite small (I'm 1.76m tall). The room looked modern, but a bit worn. The service staff were very friendly and helpful.

The loudspeaker technology in the conference room is very old and causes a lot of feedback.

Regarding the room: The heating unfortunately didn't work. After the first night in a cold room, I reported it. Luckily, we were then given a portable electric heater. It was pretty useless in the large room, but it's the thought that counts. Shower: The shower head was broken, there was no curtain, no door, and half the bathroom was flooded. Who designs something like that? When I pointed it out, I was told: "We can't do anything about the shower right now." Yeah, thanks. I was aware of that, but maybe no one had mentioned it yet? TV: It turned on, then off. Turned on, then off. And again. Then I quickly changed the channel. After several attempts, it finally stayed on. I'd rather not comment on the curious-looking gentleman who, during the nighttime check-in, was behind the reception desk in addition to the night auditor, then in front of the reception desk, and then eating a bag of Hungarian-style chips right next to my ear. Management is welcome to find out about that via camera footage. The same goes for the loud classical music blaring from behind the reception desk. Likewise, I'm always asked the following at hotel check-ins: 'Where did you park?' Or: 'Did you arrive by car?' Unfortunately, not at the Duisburger Hof. When I suggested to the receptionist after we checked out that this might be included in the check-in process, she just laughed at me. I had parked my car in front of the hotel – where several other vehicles were parked. So I assumed these were the hotel's parking spaces. The €15 parking ticket from the city of Duisburg then told me otherwise. A former palace, a landmark of Duisburg, a beacon of light in the darkness. Sadly, apart from peeling paint on the walls and antique furniture, nothing of that remains.

Next to the opera house. Once the premier venue in town. The need for renovation is undeniable. But the price/performance ratio is okay. Parking is limited.

I was there briefly for first aid, but I also saw the rooms and such. The rooms and interior look very nice. The staff is very polite and helpful. It's located right in the city center, but the good thing is that it's easy to get around, as several bus stops and trams run nearby. In addition, the opera square with an opera house is close by (I highly recommend a visit), and Duisburg Central Station is also nearby. I can definitely recommend this hotel based on its appearance and staff.
