If you love adventure, this is the place for you. You never know if you'll get into your room or not. No staff, no reception... if the system crashes (which happened constantly for us), you're left standing in front of a locked door. Last night at 3:00 AM, a woman was desperately knocking on every door because she couldn't get into her own room. This morning at 8:00 AM, a distraught person was standing in the hallway whose account had been deleted. She couldn't even retrieve her luggage. Nobody was reachable. Anyone wanting to watch TV from bed will feel like they're in Alcatraz... The view is authentically framed by a wire mesh wardrobe. Breakfast? Forget about it! Conclusion: Definitely not recommended. The price for this service: Outrageous.

Parking is very expensive. Not suitable for older people, as everything is done via mobile phone. The room is okay and the price is reasonable.

Pleasant atmosphere, though sometimes the acoustics were a bit too loud. Very friendly staff. Food: good value for money. Drinks selection was okay. As a Stauder Pilsner drinker, I missed the regional beer.

The service is terrible, and the reception staff is clueless. Two stars for the nice-looking room. But everything else is awful.

The Mezzotel Gladbeck is somewhat unusual. There's no reception, no staff on-site, and no breakfast room or vending machines. The hotel essentially consists of a corridor with rooms on the third floor of an office and medical building. Without a smartphone and a certain level of technical understanding, this can quickly become frustrating. The check-in system is entirely digital. After booking, you receive several emails with links to the so-called app, which is actually just a web app—a website that looks like an app. You should definitely open it and save it as a shortcut ("install"). Check-in only works fully on the day of arrival from 3 p.m. onwards; that's when the room is assigned and you receive your digital keys. Until then, you'll encounter a misleading message advising you to contact reception (or something similar). Check-out is also done via the app. All doors (main entrance, access to the third floor, and room door) are opened via your smartphone. In total, you have to navigate three electronic doors. It's a bit reminiscent of a 90s adventure game, but after a little trial and error, it works without any problems. The room itself was simply but modernly and functionally furnished. A Lavazza capsule machine, bottled water, internet access, and ample storage space were provided. The mattress was quite firm, the automatic bedside light a bit annoying, and instead of curtains, there were interior shutters. Nevertheless, it was tidy and clean. The location is very central. A very good pizzeria (La Grappa) is a two-minute walk away, and a bakery is directly opposite and is also open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. This easily compensates for the lack of breakfast. Important: Do not park in the parking lot behind the building; it can be expensive. There is plenty of public parking on Postallee, just a short walk away. At around €105 per night (as of November 2025), the Mezzotel is priced at the upper end of what is still considered reasonable for this type of accommodation. Those who are tech-savvy and looking for an uncomplicated room in a central location can still have a good night's stay here.

When we arrived at the hotel, the friendly cleaning lady let us in. She then looked for our room. We weren't on the list, which made us a little nervous. She then got the manager, who found our room on his computer. He also explained how the door worked. The room was clean. The bed was quite high—too high for short people like me. We couldn't leave the window open at night because the light from outside came in. There weren't any blinds or curtains, just wooden doors in front of the windows. The bathroom was clean. What bothered me personally was that you had to lift the drain cover in the sink to drain the water. The bed was only accessible from one side. There was also only one electrical outlet on the right side of the bed, so the person sleeping on the left was out of luck. I always had to crawl over the bed because I didn't want to crawl over my husband. What really kept me awake was the heating. It gurgled constantly, which was incredibly annoying. Just let the air out of the radiators and the noise will stop. The cleaning staff was super friendly and very helpful. They don't offer breakfast there, but there's a great bakery right next door where they serve delicious breakfast.
