Werk 2

Werk 2 is one of Leipzig's most significant cultural institutions — a large converted factory complex in Connewitz that has become central to the city's alternative and queer cultural life. The venue hosts a range of events from live concerts to political conferences, but its queer club nights are what make it essential for LGBTQ+ visitors to Leipzig. The queer events at Werk 2 operate at a scale and quality that the city's dedicated gay bars cannot match: the venue has a proper large-capacity dance floor, a powerful sound system, and the political seriousness of Connewitz as its backdrop. Connewitz is Leipzig's most overtly leftist neighbourhood — it was the centre of protests and political activism throughout the 2010s — and Werk 2 is the physical embodiment of that politics translated into culture. The queer nights at Werk 2 are inclusive in a way that reflects queer-feminist and trans-inclusive politics rather than the more narrowly gay-male orientation of traditional gay clubs.
