"No matter how far she goes, the record in her back will never really get smaller," it says about Wanda, the main character in Sara Gmuer's current novel "Eighteenth Floor." Do childhood and youth in the "Platte" shape a life forever? What characterizes everyday life in the large housing estate – in the GDR, in the years of upheaval, and in the present? How close are "dream and trauma" to each other, as Grit Lemke describes it in "Children of Hoy"?

On the invitation of the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum and the Leipzig City History Museum, the two authors will discuss these and other questions at the KOMM-Haus in Grünau. Readings from their books, which are set in Hoyerswerda and Berlin, will complete the discussion. The event will be moderated by Leipzig journalist Carolin Haentjes. The event is part of the accompanying program for the temporary exhibition "Platte. Life in the Large Housing Estate" at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum and the city-wide program for the 50th birthday of Grünau.

Grit Lemke, born in Spremberg, grew up in Hoyerswerda, works as a documentary film director and author. Her film "Gundermann Revier" was nominated for the Grimme Award in 2020.

Sara Gmuer was born in Locarno in 1980.
